If you are a crafter, well then you probably go through a lot of materials making your crafts. Just about every crafter looks for ways to save money while crafting. Saving money getting your supplies means that you can make more crafts - and that's always a lot of fun!

One great way to save money on crafting is by buying some of your materials at the local dollar store. You probably won't be able to find everything you need at the dollar store, but certainly some things are available, and if you are the creative type --- you can find ways to use even more dollar store items in your crafts. Using items from the dollar store can force you to think creatively in a way you haven't thought of otherwise. It can be a very fun exercise in imaginative thinking.

Sometimes it can be fun to consider trying a new craft, just to play around with the dollar store items. You may try sewing or using iron on transfers to work with t-shirts or scarves. You could do decoupage or even scrapbooking using the gift wrap or the gift bags. The cards could be re-enhanced into brand new cards with new embellishments and designs.

Try several different dollar stores as they will typically have different items stocked and they will inspire you to make different crafts. One dollar store I went to had doll house furniture that was interesting to use for crafts projects. Another had beautiful silk flowers. Not every dollar store is going to have the very same items and they also may not have them in at all the time, so it pays to pick them up when you see them right away.

If making dollar store crafts appeals to you, then the book Dollar Store Décor: 100 Projects for Lush Living That Won't Break The Bank by Mark Montano is for you. Created by a decorator from TLC's show "While You Were Out" the book gives lots of cool projects you can make from any dollar store.
