I originally found out about Crafters Choice through an advertisement in a crochet magazine. I was inspired by the selection of books and decided to look into them. If you come across an ad for them, through a magazine or by mail, and decide to sign up, I recommend doing the ultimate signing up through their website. Most ads have a code on them to enter when you get to the website so you will get the same deal as the ad offers. The advantage to signing up through the website instead is that you get a lot greater selection of books to choose from and the same deal, instead of the small selection offered in the ad.
Even knowing all the stress book clubs could cause, I was enticed into joining Crafter's Choice Book Club the same way all book clubs draw us in, free books. I was sold by the fact that the offer I found required me to only buy one book within a year. That sounded easy. There was no way they were roping me into a 4 or 5 book commitment, like I was use to seeing. I couldn't believe they only required me to buy one book. To make it clear the offer was originally to buy 2 books, but if I purchased 1 book for $4 with my 4 other books for $1 each, my commitment would be reduced to only 1 book. So, I signed up. In all, with the $4 book, the other books at $1 each and their shipping charges it cost me about $26. If you think about it the 5 books really cost me the actual price of 1 book. Plus, I receive a free totebag that I originally didn't want, but it turned out to be an extremely nice very heavy-duty canvas bag, that you would be willing spend money for at a store.
I did worry a bit about continuously getting those notices in the mail and ending up with the burden of returning an unwanted book. But, it ended up a lot easier than I thought. You have a choice of replying by postal mail, telephone or through their web site. You can also be notified by email too, of the featured selection. It is a good extra reminder, to avoid unwanted books. You just click in the email and it takes you right there and it sends you a confirmation to assure you that you will not be receiving the book.
I was happy that all I needed to fulfill my commitment was to buy 1 book. I was even happier to accidently fulfill my commitment. Most book clubs seem to require you to buy high cover price books to fulfill your commitment. It doesn't seem to apply to Crafter's Choice. Their website was having a special, any book on their site for only $10.99, plus $2.49 shipping . A deal I could not pass up. I purchased 2 books that I had been wanting for awhile. The next thing I know I log on the site and my commitment showed as 0. I called the phone line to make sure and it said the same. I was still a bit surprised and unsure. The last thing to verify the fact was the mailing. I looked at the next one I received and it no longer showed a commitment. I was confused and surprised, but happy.
Even if somehow in the future they realize they made a mistake, their book prices are pretty good. They sell them at what they call member's prices and very often I have found them actually lower than Amazon.com. The downfall is that you have to pay for shipping. But, they often have shipping specials and they have great sitewide book special sales.
Their website is very easy to navigate and you have the option to order over the phone if you're not fond of internet ordering. Whether you order over the internet or the website they have a Bonus Points program. For every book purchase you make, even sale books, you accumulate points that can be used for money off or free books.
In addition to books they also sell some craft kits and crafting supplies, not as big of a selection as books though. And, I haven't found the non-book items to be as competitive in price, as the books. They have books and items to inspire any crafter or aspiring crafter, crochet, knitting, jewelry-making, paper quilling, cooking, too many to name them all. If you are an advanced crafter or someone who needs some inspiration to get your creative juices flowing, I highly recommend Crafter's Choice Book Club.

I sent the card in for 4 books for 99cents. The first bill I received was a bast due notice for $29.45. I sent them 99cents for the money I owe. My next step will be Clark Howard. I'll keep you informed on how my fight goes. But be careful in dealing with this company.
Now I can't return this book - it should go to some 3 party that I have no idea of: I ordered the book through Crafter's Choice and not anybody else, and I can get a refund for the same reason. More than that, my account is suspended as somebody who failed the contract and I am being charged the penalty.
The customer service only answer: we are sorry, but you should have guessed to click some link on the web-site and find out that this book is not from us and is not eligible. They say "in the Terms and conditions it's said that not all books are eligible"; but what books are not - go find. They won't close my account with them till I pay them the money.
I consider it a scam against the people who do not have a pre-conceived idea that something can be fishy and they MUST click on everything clickable on the web site to find hidden conditions to get then to buy more merchandize.
I have just filed a complain with Bbetter Business Bureau. Here is the text - just to give you an idea.
Per the contract with this club I am supposed to buy 2 books per year. That was done. The second book was bought through the web-site.
In 1 month I am charged $21,79 as "not fulfilling my obligation of purchasing 2 books".
Calling the customer service revealed that I was supposed to know to click some web-link on the web-site to "learn more" that this book is not eligible to fulfill the contract since sold through a 3-d party. In other words the merchandise is not openly marked as being sold by the Crafter's Choice Book Club or some 3d party and as being eligible to fulfill my obligations or not.
This information was NOT openly given on the page where the book is advertized and a consumer who is not web-literate can see what is eligible and what is not.

Big Rip-off! I agree with Ben, even if you send back a refusal, you receive the books anyway. And, if you open the package to see what they sent you, then you are charged for shipping and handling -- even if you return the book. Crafter's Choice --not my choice!
I'm sorry you've had such a bad experience, but for one it does not cost money to ship unwanted books back, as long as you do not open the package. Just write refused and stick it in the mailbox. You might also want to take advantage of online or automated phone service to refuse your books. They are a much faster way of doing it and less chance to miss the time limit. Crafters Choice sends an email and you just click the refused button.
I suggest you register your account on your book clubs websites. It will make your experience much better and easier.
Ya well the book clubs do stink because I have been sending cards back saying that I do not want the selections of the month and they still send them to me. These clubs are scamming people and trying to dishonestly make a few extra dollars. I mean usually people will just keep the book sand pay anyways. Its a load of bull. My suggestion is to not get involved in Crafters Choice and Double Day book clubs because they will keep sending you books that I didnt want and it costs money to have them shipped back.
