Crafting Goals for 2011

Amanda Abella
With a new year just around the corner, now is a perfect time to set some resolutions, or as I prefer to call them, goals. You see, the word "goals" implies a deadline that can be measured. We use the term for other aspects of our lives like work, finances, and weight loss so why not use it for crafting? Below you will find a list of some crafting goals for 2011.

2011 Crafting Goal #1: Go green with your crafting.

There is a rise in social awareness about the threats that we pose to the environment. Consequently, one of the easiest ways to help Mother Nature out is by crafting.

In 2011, make an effort to go green with your crafts. Reduce supplies, reuse materials, and recycle old items into new treasures. For more tips on how to go green with crafting in 2011 check out EcoEtsy, Crafting a Green World, and Recycled Crafts.

2011 Crafting Goal #2: Set up a craft side business.

In today's economy there is no such thing as job security. As a result, many people are looking for additional sources of income. Cue Etsy.

Since it's inception in 2005, Etsy has taken the internet by storm by developing a platform for people to sell their crafts directly to customers. Crafters around the world took notice and started setting up their own craft businesses, many of which have seen much success.

In 2011, take a leap and start making some extra income with your crafts. If you don't know where to start check out craft entrepreneur Meg Mateo Ilasco's book, Craft, Inc. 2011 Crafting Goal #3: Pick up a new craft.

As crafters, we should always be looking for new and innovative ways in which we can create. In 2011, make it a goal to pick up a new craft. This not only keeps you on your toes, you will also be surprised at what new things you can learn. Take a jewelry making class at a local college, pick up a book, or see what events are being put on by your local craft store.

2011 Crafting Goal #4: Volunteer by crafting.

Not too long ago, I wrote an article about the many ways that you can volunteer by crafting. There are several organizations and groups out there that could use your talents in order to bring a smile to someone's face. In 2011, make an effort to lend your skills to people in need.

This coming year, take your crafting to the next level and you will be seeing doors to new opportunities.

I have been thinking about my crafting goals for the year, too. I appreciate that you chose getting greener as your first point. Crafting IS green because you save so much by making something yourself instead of ordering or buying it from a store. Anytime you need any thing, try to find a way to DIY!
