About the beginning of February, gather a box of Valentine's Day craft supplies to create beautiful and whimsical Valentine's Day decorations with your family. If you have the box ready, you will easily be able to combat the doldrums of winter with some quality fun family time. To qualify as a good Valentine's Day craft supply look for things red, pink, white and heart shaped. You, of course, will come up with dozens more. Use your imagination and think outside the box.

Here is a list of possible supplies:

Construction paper

Tissue paper

Card stock

Paper doilies

Buttons

Sequins

Confetti

Feathers

Pom-poms

Candy signature hearts

Paint and brushes

Old Valentine's Day cards

Heart shaped paper punch

Heart stickers

Clay flower pots

Yarn

Valentine's Day fabric

Cardboard

Ribbon

Decorative scissors

Regular scissors

Variety of glues

Lace and eyelet trim

Felt

Embroidery floss

These supplies will provide hours of contentment and satisfaction. Your children can craft Valentine's Day cards for all the special people in their lives. These cards are often more meaningful than any card that has been store bought and every detail was lovingly added with pride.

Have them paint Clay flower pots for beautiful candy dishes to add to your home. If they become quite productive with these pots, have them share their talent and give them as Valentine's Day gifts.

Make a candy signature heart wreath. Cut a circle out of cardboard the size of a dinner plate. Cut out the center leaving a 2 inch ring. Wrap the ring in satin ribbon and hot glue signature hearts over the entire surface.

Create caterpillar pins by gluing your red and white pom-poms together. Add wiggly eyes and pipe cleaner antenna. Finish by gluing on a pin back.

Add pom-poms to the top of your pencils to craft cute little characters. Glue on wiggly eyes, triangle ears and yarn whiskers to make them special for Valentine's Day. Glue red heart shaped sequins for the cheeks.

Cut two heart shapes from construction paper. Thread yarn on a large sewing needle and sew the hearts together using large running stitches. Fill with signature hearts before stitching closed. Finish by gluing doilies, lace and glitter to the other side.

Wrap and glue a cheap ink pen with satin ribbon. Hot glue contrasting craft feathers to the top for a faux ostrich feather pin.

Make a paper flower bouquet using tissue paper and pipe cleaners. Fill a clear flower vase with assorted red, white and pink beads and poke in the pipe cleaner stems.

Use old Valentine's Day cards to decorate new ones, make bookmarks or sandwich several between sheets of clear contact paper and cut out a large heart shaped place mat.

These ideas can work as inspiration for your kids to create a fun and festive house for a special Valentine's Day.
