CLICK HERE to see what newspaper slippers look like. Note: you can modify the design to make a full toe slipper instead of open toe. You can also add a strap that goes behind your heel.
To make newspaper slippers, you will need an old newspaper, a stapler, some white glue like Elmer's glue or any white school glue, a marker or pencil, and some tape (any kind of tape).
To make the soles of the slippers, stack newspapers 12 pages thick. Then step on the newspapers placing the heels of your feet near the edge of the newspaper. Trace around the shape of each foot, then get off the paper. Place a staple inside the outline of each heel to hold the pages together while you cut. Then cut through all the pages of the newspaper at once.
To make the slipper strap, fold a sheet of newspaper over and over again, making the strap about 3 inches wide. Lift 6 layers of the sole of the slipper and pass the strap between the layers. Step on the sold and measure the strap across your foot to adjust the strap size. Remove your foot then staple the strap to the bottom 6 layers of the sole.
Bring down the other 6 layers of the sole and glue them down. Then staple around the sole of the slipper. You can also bind the soles by adding tape along the edges. You can use scotch tape, masking tape, electrical tape or whatever tape you have in your craft bin.
If you want to make a full toe slipper, just add more paper to the toe and staple it in place. To make a strap behind your heel, just fold newspaper as you did for the foot strap, but make the strap more narrow, about 1 inch wide is good.
You can decorate these slippers by painting them, adding stickers, gluing on construction paper bows, or whatever. Making newspaper slippers is an excellent activity for kids to do during a slumber party. The kids will have so much fun making then parading around in their new slippers!
