Crafts for Kids: Paper Plate Easter Bonnet

Your Little Girl Will Love Making Her Own Easter Bonnet with This Easy Craft!

Darlene Michaud
This craft will teach you how to turn a paper plate into a cute Easter bonnet. This is a fun craft for girls of all ages. The older kids can do the cutting and gluing. The younger kids can do the coloring and decorating. Then all the girls, including mom, can wear the bonnets!

To start this paper plate craft, you will need white paper plates and various other craft supplies, like scissors, glue, markers, crayons, construction paper, etc. You will also want to gather up any other decorative supplies you have on hand, such as stickers, artificial flowers, ribbon, bows, crepe paper, etc.

The first step is to cut three lines into the paper plate. You can see an image of how to cut the lines if you click here. Don't cut the lines too long. If the lines are too long, the bonnet will be too big for the child's head. Start with shorter lines, then if the bonnet needs to be bigger, you can cut the lines more. If you cut the lines too long and the bonnet is too big, you can add tape to the ends of the lines to make the cuts shorter.

After your lines are cut, fold the points up. The plate should look like this image when the points are folded properly. Check to see if the bonnet fits then cut the lines more if needed.

Once the bonnet is cut to size, it's time to decorate! You can press the hat flat again to make decorating easier. The plate can be painted or colored with markers. A nice color to use is green, then you can make a garden Easter bonnet. To make a garden bonnet, cut various flower shapes out of construction paper and glue them on to each bonnet point. See this image to get an idea of how pretty the flowers look. If you have artificial flowers, you can glue those on instead.

If you want to make an Easter egg bonnet, cut and decorate some egg shapes and glue those on each bonnet point. You can get an idea of how this can look if you click here. You might also want to glue some Easter basket grass on the bonnet. That would be cute!

You can also decorate the bonnet with stickers, glitter, magazine cut outs, ribbons, buttons, bows, pom poms or whatever your mind can dream up. If you want, you can also add long streamers to the back of the bonnet. You can use ribbon, crepe paper, or even fabric scraps for the streamers. Click here to see how the streamers look.

If you want to make it easy to keep the bonnet on your child's head, you can attach cords on either side of the bonnet so the bonnet can be tied under the neck. You can use yarn or ribbons for that cord and just staple the ends to the paper plate.
