To make popsicle stick Christmas stars, you will need 10 popsicle sticks per large star or 5 popsicle sticks per small star, a hot glue gun or white glue, craft paint, a cord for hanging your ornament, and whatever other craft supplies you might want to use, such as glitter, lace, craft gems, buttons, stars, pom poms, etc.
To make a large star, count out 10 popsicle sticks. Arrange the sticks as seen in this image. Hot glue the ends in the star shape. If you don't want to use hot glue, you can use white craft glue, but you will have to wait until the glue is completely dry before you decorate your star. Hot glue allows you to continue right away.
Once your star is glued, you can paint it any color you want using craft paint. You can use typical Christmas colors like red and green, or you can make yellow or gold stars. After the paint is dry, you can add glitter if you want. You might opt to decorate using glitter glue since it's not messy like glitter.
You can also glue items to your stars like lace, ribbon, buttons, craft gems, or whatever else you can think up. Then tie or glue a cord or ribbon to the top of the star so you can hang it.
Another fun thing you can do is glue a piece of fabric, lace, or aluminum foil to the back of the star so the star is filled in. Then just trim away any excess so the star keeps its star shape. You can also try backing the stars with coffee filters, construction paper, netting, paper doilies, or even magazine pages. Anything goes!
If you want to a small star, count out 5 popsicle sticks and have an adult cut each stick in half. Then arrange the sticks as directed above and decorate as desired. Small popsicle stick Christmas stars will fit better in your Christmas tree. Large stars can be hung as decorations in your home.
If you don't have popsicle sticks, you can make your own "sticks" by cutting popsicle stick shapes out of cardboard such as cereal box cardboard. Or you can make sticks out of newspaper by cutting squares of newspaper however wide you want and folding the paper over and over again about the width of a popsicle stick to form a paper stick. Then tape or glue the paper to secure it so it won't unfold.
