Crafts for National Candy Corn Day

The National Confectioners Association estimates that 20 million pounds of candy corn are sold each year. Most of that is sold in the fall, near Halloween. This sweet treat is so popular that is has its own national day. National Candy Corn Day falls on October 30 each year. That gives you a good excuse to eat candy corn before Halloween! It also gives you an excuse to make some candy corn crafts to celebrate the history of the candy.

Candy Corn Magnet

This is a very easy candy corn craft that is good for kids of all ages, including little kids. You will need craft foam in white, orange and yellow. You also need a piece of cardboard like cereal box cardboard. Other supplies you need are white glue, wiggle eyes or small buttons for eyes (or you can draw on the eyes), a black pom pom for the nose (or you can draw on the nose too), a black marker, and a small magnet.

Start by cutting out a candy corn shape out of two layers of cardboard. Then cut one of the pieces of cardboard into three pieces. Use these pieces as patterns and cut the top piece out of white foam, the middle piece out of orange foam, and the bottom piece out of yellow foam. Glue these pieces onto the solid piece of cardboard.

Glue on the eyes and nose and draw a mouth using a black marker. You can also draw stitching lines around the candy corn if desired. Then glue a small magnet to the back of the candy corn. See this photo to get an idea on how to design your candy corn magnet.

Candy Corn Clay Pot

This is another very easy craft that is good for kids of all ages, including adults. Buy any size clay pot and paint it candy corn style with the white on the bottom, the orange in the middle and the yellow on top. This makes it look like an upside down candy corn (the narrow part is always white and the wide part is always yellow). Draw on a happy face and you're done! You can see this photo to get an idea on how to paint the clay pot. You could also save money and paint paper cups to make this craft. Then use the cups to hold candy!

Candy Corn Lacing Project

This is a good craft to teach kids the very first steps in sewing! Cut candy corn shapes out of black construction paper. Then punch holes in the card as seen in this photo. Then give the kids scraps of white, orange and yellow yarn and let them lace the candy corn as seen in the photo!
