Crafts with Popsicle Sticks for Preschoolers

Popsicle stick crafts for preschoolers range from decorative to imaginative. Kids can make so many different things from Popsicle sticks, but some are easier for preschoolers to do than some of the more involved Popsicle crafts. These specific stick crafts are especially easy for little ones to make.

Picture Frame

Preschoolers can make a picture frame for their favorite photos. The frame can be painted, colored with markers or sprinkled with sequins. To make the frame, you will need eight Popsicle sticks, one photo that can be cut down if necessary, a piece of cardboard (cereal boxes are sturdy enough) and glue. Place two sticks on the table horizontally side-by-side so that the tips on the sticks on each end are even. Place two more sticks horizontally about 2 inches from the first set of sticks. Place two sticks vertically on the left side of the horizontal sticks so that the ends of the horizontal sticks show. Place the other two sticks vertically on the other side so that tips of the horizontal sticks show slightly.

Carefully glue the vertical sticks to the horizontal sticks. You will have an opening in the middle. Cut the photo and piece of cardboard the 1/2 inch longer and wider than the size of the opening. Glue the photo to the cardboard. Run a thin bead of glue around the edge of the photo. Place the photo on the backside of the opening. When the glue dries, you will have a picture frame.

Star of David

The Star of David will keep the preschooler bust for a little while. You will need six Popsicle sticks, glue, 4 inch long piece of yarn and paint or sparkles, which are optional. Use three sticks to make a triangle. Glue the ends of the three sticks together. Do the same for the remaining three sticks. You will have two triangles when you are done.

Place one triangle over the top of the other triangle so that each point is over the straight side of the bottom trainable. Glue the top triangle to the bottom triangle in the areas where the top and bottom triangle surfaces meet. Color the star with paint and sparkles. After the star is dry, tie the yarn around one tip of the star to hang the ornament on the tree.

Valentine's Day Butterfly

A butterfly decoration for Valentine's Day is something that preschoolers can make with an older child or an adult. You need one Popsicle stick, craft glue, two red medium-size paper or foam hearts, two pink small-size paper or foam hearts and two eyeballs. The smaller pink hearts are glued to the medium-size red hearts. The heart points are glued on the Popsicle stick one-quarter of the way down the stick from the end to make the butterfly wings. The eyeballs are glued on the top of stick above the hearts to make a Valentine's Day butterfly.

Reindeer Ornament

The reindeer ornament is ideal for preschoolers. Kids can make one or more reindeer to make their own herds. You will need three Popsicle sticks, two eyeballs, one 1 or 2 inch diameter red pom-pom, two holly-shaped leaves, three red dots, one ribbon 4 inches long and glue. Two Popsicle sticks are glued together in a close V-shape at one end. The third stick is glued to each of the Popsicle sticks that make the V at the top about 1/2 inch down from the top.

The two holly leaves are glued to the center of the stick going across the V-shape. Use a hole punch to make three tiny red dots. Glue the dots to the center of where the two holly leaves meet. Glue one end of the ribbon to one side of the cross stick and the other end to the other side of the cross stick.
