Crafts Using Old Computer, Music, or Video CD's

A great way to recycle old computer, music, or video CDs is to make crafts out of the CDs. You can make something useful, or decorative out of a CD and not only will you be saving the planet with one less piece of trash, but you will have fun thinking up uses for the CD. Here are a few ideas for crafts using old CDs.

Fish CD - A CD can be turned into a fish several ways. One of the easiest fish CDs to make is to use tissue paper and permanent markers. Use any color tissue paper you like for the fins. The fins will be made by putting the tissue paper through the center of the CD. Then you just draw eyes and a mouth. You have a CD fish.

If you want a fish that is not totally round, you can use the tissue paper for the fins and cut construction paper for a fish tail. Cut the tail in a three dimensional view. Remember the CD will be standing on its side.

CD Candle Holder - My favorite interior accent has to be candles. Candles spruce up any room in the house. Using a CD for a candle holder is a great way to recycle and save money on candle holders. If you are worried about the wax leaking through the center hole of the CD, you can put aluminum foil covering the bottom of the candle.

Your CD candle holder can be decorated or just leave as it is. The silvery rainbow will complement any candle. A round candle will look symmetrically pleasing. A candle that is square or triangular will show individualism and personality. My favorite shaped candle is a pyramid. Purchase the candles that are smaller than the CD or for different shaped candles have them touch the edge of the CD in angles.

CD Wreath - Depending on your creativity and imagination you can use a CD for a wreath. You can either break the center out or you can use the CD as it is. Using a CD for a wreath is not only practical, but it is also extremely inexpensive.

If you want a simple and unusual wreath for Christmas, use an old CD and wrap ribbons around it. You will leave some of the CD unwrapped so the silver will shine through. You can use gold, red, blue and green ribbons. The ribbon should be about a quarter inch wide. You can even make a bow for your wreath from the ribbons.

If you like traditional wreaths, you can use the CD as the base for your wreath. This will be a small wreath so decide where you are hanging the wreath first and how big it needs to be.

CD Centerpiece - If you want someone to talk about your centerpiece, use a CD as a base for your next centerpiece. You can cover the center of the CD so the hole does not show with a candle or a floral arrangement. If you have a small table, a CD centerpiece will be perfect. It is also perfect for large tables where you will be setting multiple centerpieces down the table.

Everyone has an old CD from something. Instead of throwing your CDs away, turn your trash into a craft or treasure. Whatever you make from your old CD, display it proudly because you recycled. Enjoy your craft.
