Granted this does not happen every day. My nephew was sitting in his apartment at his computer relaxing. There was a knock at his door. He went to answer it and as he put it, "An old guy was there about forty." (Gee, thanks my darling nephew! I will thank him for most of you, too!) My nephew also described the man to be very feminine acting.
My nephew asked him what he wanted. The "old man" replied, "You don't know?"
"No."
"Oh, okay." and the man left.
My nephew was thinking to himself how weird that was. He went back to his computer. Not more than thirty minutes went by and another knock on his door.
Grand Central Station he was thinking to himself!
This time, when he opened the door it was a nice looking guy in his twenties. This guy was also feminine acting, he said.
My nephew said, "Yes, can I help you?"
The young man said, "Yes."
"Well, what do you want?" my nephew replied dumbfounded.
"You mean you don't know?" the young man said.
Now this was getting really freaky to my nephew. What on earth is going on, he thought to himself.
The young man said, "Can I come in and show you?"
My nephew said, "Yes, I'd really like to know!"
(Brave of him to let a stranger into his apartment.)
The young man entered his apartment. They both walked over to the computer. The young man pulled up Craigslist. He did a few keystrokes on the computer.
And there it was. An ad for my nephew looking for men for "a good time." His photo and address was posted on Craigslist. Hmmm, I think that is pretty illegal!
My nephew was shocked and irate! He was grateful the young man showed him and he told him, "Sorry, I have a girlfriend."
The young man left.
My nephew immediately deleted the profile. He called the police. I find it strange that the police could not do anything because the profile was deleted. I always thought once you type something in your computer it is there forever. I am sure it is somewhere!
Needless to say, my nephew and his girlfriend were too upset to spend the night in the apartment that night so they stayed someplace else.
That is the bad of Craigslist's or any advertisement site. This was not Craigslist's fault. My nephew is pretty sure it was a friend playing a trick on him that is upset with him. Hmm, I'll stay on his good side!
Now for those looking to actually sell real products on Craigslist here is a link to an Associated Content producer. He has some very good tips on selling your items and selling them fast! Good luck!

Post a Commentwow all of that sound unbelievable, and thanks for posting my link up there. This was a great break down of the bad things that can actually happen from Craigslist.
You nephew is so brave!
Wow! With friends like that-I hope he doesn't have any enemies. Thanks for reminding us to use caution.
That is truly scary.. beyond scary!
That is scarey, but thank goodness all was ok. Now that you look back on it, it is funny. It could be dangerous and my stomache got butterflies reading this! I am so happy all turned out ok. Thanks for sharing this one.
That is terrible. It is really awful the things that people will post on the internet though. I've heard some real horror stories.
Rebecca- Wow, that is just terrible!
Great article! Another CL fiasco happened in/near Portland, OR. Someone put an ad saying he was moving, come and get anything from the house and posted the address. Unfortunately, the house belonged to a man on vacation. He came back and found it house emptyed! He was only able to recover some of his belongings. Another person in the Portland area lost his trailer in the same way.
40 is old? I'm ancient then. Craigs list ought to be able to do something - at the very least tell him who did it.
My nephew was also quite funny in saying he was proud how good looking the young guy was that came over! lol At least all is safe now. Hopefully no more evil tricks like this one!
