Craigslist-Purely Unpure Entertainment

Jennifer Bove
I have to say, craigslist is good for some things. You can't beat the free section. There is also a wanted section. I needed a printer for my son, as any projects he does has points taken off if not printed. I couldn't afford one. I posted an ad and not only did someone give my son a beautiful printer, but they were generous enough to bring it to me as I don't drive.

Of course then there's the "dark side". There can be dangerous people lurking around there as we all learned when that man killed a woman he arranged to meet from an ad on craigslist. There's also the "gentlemen" looking for a young lady in need of financial assistance. As grown adults, most of us know these are unsavory characters trying to lure young naive women into prostitution. Unfortunately, some young girls are too inexperienced to know this and are put into dangerous situations.

Then of course there's the just plain funny side! This is the entertainment end. If you are blue, just read some of the personals and even some of the wanted ads and a smile is sure to appear upon your face. Some fun examples are below-don't miss out on the fun!

Craigslist's Weirdest Posts- Strictly Platonic

"Advice friends - m4w - 26 (Philly)

Just looking for a down to earth girl with some what of the same interest and just looking for a friend to talk to every once and a while and maybe take a walk.. I have pics to share and age, race or looks are of no interest to me. Just be down to earth and down for the cause. I'm avg to gl and worth the time. "

Not really sure what that first line means, but I'm sure he does. Also not really sure what advice friends are? Perhaps a therapist would be better? Don't really think I want a friend that I have to constantly dole out advice to. What avg to gl means I don't know, but hopefully it's not too bad since I put it into this article.

Craigslist's Weirdest Posts-Missed Connections

"5 minutes of sparkling conversation at DD - m4w - 54 (Bensalem)

I talked with you this morning at the Dunkin Donuts in Bensalem on Route 1. We had the best conversation, laughing so early in the morning, talking about kids, spouses and work all in the span of about 5 minutes. Seemed like we'd known each other already. Are you out there? "

OK everyone, be careful. Apparently you can't have chit chat in line anymore without someone thinking your in love. If I mention spouse or boyfriend, that's my signal saying: "this is just chatting passing time in line don't get the wrong idea". I wonder if the woman ever saw this? If so she may never go to that DD again.

Craigslist's Weirdest Posts-Rants and Raves

"re darrin? (not john)

Hey bleep, did your lights just fliker? That's me turning off you're electric from my computer. You dont want to bleep with me again."

Wow, turning off someones electric from my computer would be pretty cool-or should I say pretty delusional? The whole ad was copied and pasted, so exact words except for the two bleeps.

Craigslist's Weirdest Posts-Talent Gigs

"phone call (west chester)

I need someone to make a phone call for me. I need you to sound professional. Its a long story but I will give you $20 to make this call."

I don't know, I may have to answer this one! Just kidding, you know it's something pretty bad if they're willing to pay $20.00 to make a phone call.

So in the end, there may be danger lurking on craigslist. As long as you use it mainly for entertainment purposes, you should be fine. Look around a little and enjoy yourself. It's kind of like a Jerry Springer pre-show.
