Cranford NJ Girl Scout Troop 376 Receives Certificate of Appreciation from Colonel Wendy L. Martinson, Garrison Commander, Fort Sam Houston
The Girl Scout Junior Troop took on a project to collect hand-crafted cards from the children of Cranford. They called the project Hope is Sweet. The children hand- made cards of support for wounded soldiers and their families at Walter Reed Army Medical Center and Fort Sam Houston's Brooke Army Medical Center. Girl Scout Troop 376 collected 800 cards during the last week of the 2007 school year.
The Girl Scouts also made chocolate-covered pretzels, dipped cookies and chocolate solids. They were assisted by Master Chocolatier Diane Pinder of Donna & Company. The cookies were decorated in red, white, and blue. Along with the treats and hand-crafted cards, phone cards also were sent to the soldiers and their families. Donna & Company generously provided the chocolate and covered the shipping costs for this project.
According to the Press Release, Diane Pinder states she was "impressed by the dedication and work that these Scouts put into this important project which helped honor our military personnel who are making huge sacrifices in the service of the Country. The Certificates of Appreciation from Colonel Martinson of Fort Sam Houston were wonderful and appreciated surprises."
Donna & Company also sells Fisher House Bars and donates all of the proceeds to the Fisher House Foundation. The Fisher House Foundation is an umbrella organization that co-ordinates help to military families. Fisher House Bars can be purchased on-line at http://cocoabee.com/cocoabee_orders.html .

Post a Commentuh, my "girls" , not "gitls" LOL I make so many typos in these comment sections, it's not even funny. I think I am trying to type as fast as I think, which isn't always possible. ;-)
This is great info. It's nice to hear positive news. I remember being a girl scout. I plan to get my gitls involved soon. I think Girl Scouts is a wonderful positive social group for girls. They learn so many social skills as well as life skills that some may not get elsewhere. They also can make so many new friends.
This is a wonderful read! As a military spouse I really appreciate stories such as this one. My husband still has a small pocket size flag with a poem from a boy scout troop that was sent to him when he was at war. It really touched him to recieve such a thoughful gift.
What a sweet thing for those girls to do.
What a thoughtful community service project.
Great piece! Keep up the wonderful work, Elena!
