Three hours south east of Little Rock, Arkansas you can find the Crater Of Diamonds State Park, an old volcano vent that has diamonds that come up to the surface that visitors are able to find.

The diamonds at the Crater of Diamonds State park are never easy to find. You have to search the soil closely to find the diamonds. The soil is filled with tiny rocks and pebbles which can be mistaken for diamonds. The diamonds at the Crater of Diamonds State park are shiny and clear. Dirt will not stick to the diamonds and if the sun is out you can see the diamonds shining on top of the soil, but don't think you will see a lot of diamonds if you go. Most people who visit never find them.

The diamonds at Crater of Diamonds State Park are easiest to find right after a rain. The rain washes away the soil which makes the diamonds easier to spot. There is a place where to can take some soil and wash it in water to help you find a diamond.

The crater that you look for the diamonds is seven miles deep and the diamonds work their way up to the surface so there will not be a shortage of diamonds for a very long time.

If you plan to go to the Crater of Diamonds State park in Arkansas you should plan to go on a day when the weather is nice. If you go on a day that is bright and sunny be sure to dress properly with a wide brimmed hat and sun screen. If it is a cold day then take warm clothing. A rainy day is a good time to look for diamonds but take along a rain poncho and shoes that you do not mind getting muddy. The diamonds are in the mud so dress for the weather.

At the Crater of Diamonds State Park you will need some tools to look for diamonds. A small shovel, screen of some kind to sieve the soil with and a five gallon bucket can be helpful for you to look for diamonds. Don't forget to take along a small container to put any diamonds in that you find.

The Crater of Diamonds State Park can be a great family experience. If you have small children take along some sand toys for them to play with. There is plenty of soil for them to play in and the sand toys may be helpful when you look for diamonds.
