Craving a McJordan

J
In having some fun going back through the personal journals I kept from early adulthood until now, I read on the entry covering my eighteenth birthday that I had a couple of McJordans to eat. Now, folks, that was a great sandwich. This food item wasn't just an ordinary burger; it had bacon and barbecue sauce going along with the beef patty, pickles and onions. It was named after the NBA legend, Michael Jordan, as he was in his prime when the sandwich came out.

I can even remember the McDonalds commercial that introduced us to this product. It showed the managers closing up the facility late at night, when Michael Jordan appears at the door and asks if it isn't too late to get a sandwich. Of course, the two men in charge were not about to deny the star a meal (although any ordinary Joe like most of us would have been told to beat it). One of them hits the kitchen to begin preparation, while the other one discusses the sandwich with Jordan, and they design it right there in that brief moment. Through that work and effort, they made a new menu item that I eagerly looked forward to when I pulled in under the golden arches.

The McJordan came out for the first time I believe in 1992, or maybe a little prior, and it became one of those items similar to the McRib, a limited product that would briefly be on the menu and then disappear for awhile. However, the rib sandwich still lives on at times, while the McJordan didn't seem to make it out of the 90s. While I look forward to the McRibs coming back, I would truly enjoy sinking my teeth into another McJordan. I know Michael isn't in the spotlight like he once was and I am not an NBA fan like I once was, but why does the sandwich have to fade off and never return. Bring it back and let another generation get to know it and enjoy it.

How can McDonalds initiate this comeback? Of course, Jordan is still popular, as the NBA even still tries to market him. He is part-owner of the Charlotte Bobcats, and with the videos and literature we have today, a new generation of fans are already getting to know him and give him admiration. See if Michael will do another commercial, maybe either shooting hoops in a gym or sitting behind the desk and he gets hungry. And of course, what will he want to eat? A McJordan, of course!
