The tools were interesting and fun to learn how to use. They are called the triwriter, which is a plastic handle that you can put three pieces of chalk into at once. As you color with the handle, you are designing in three different colors at the same time. The widewriter is also handheld. You put a piece of chalk in this handle sideways in order to make wider drawings. This tool is also great for coloring in the pictures that were made with the stencils.
The last tool was the blender. On one end it is a brush and on the other end it is a sponge. If you make a rainbow and blend all the colors together it appears as an uninterrupted drawing that pops out of the ground when you put on the 3-D glasses.
The 3-D glasses are made of a green plastic. They also have clear plastic lenses. The glasses are durable and can easily be cleaned with a damp cloth.
The concept behind the Crayola's 3-D chalk is simple. Warm colors such as red or orange appear high. Cool colors such as blue and green appear low. All of the colors in between fall at different levels when you wear the glasses. We have used different kinds of sidewalk chalk and all seem to have the 3-D effect with the special glasses.
The dual ended chalk comes in opposite colors, one warm color and one cool color. Green and orange because orange will appear higher than green. Red and blue with blue being lower. The other three dual ended pieces are purple and red, green and pink, and blue and yellow. This makes it very easy for young kids to put together color schemes that will create a 3-D effect.
Crayola's 3-D sidewalk chalk has inspired my children's imagination. They have played and colored with it for hours at a time. And they are very proud of their work. I get called outside about every ten minutes to put on the 3-D glasses and view their creations. If you are still not convinced at the effects of Crayola's 3-D sidewalk chalk, you can view a commercial at www.crayola.com. The chalk and glasses really work the way the commercial demonstrates.
