Crazy Legs: Breakdancing Pioneer

In the course of the history of Breakdancing and the breakdance, one person is mostly being revered by breakdance enthusiasts. Though this person was not the founder of the Rock Steady Crew, but the group in which he is the member became famous worldwide when he became its president. Here is a short profile of Crazy Legs. Richard Colon AKA Crazy Legs was born on January 1, 1966. He was born in Bronx New York to a Puerto Rican Family. Influenced by his Brother, became a breakdance artist. At the age of 13, he Joined the Rock Steady Group 2 years after its foundation and became its president from 1981 up to the present. Currently, he busies him self in helping with the dance instruction and community out reach program of the Rock Steady Crew.

Since 1979, Crazy legs had done many things that made break dancing popular. He and his group in Manhattan performed in the Lincoln Outdoor program. The event was covered by various New York and international media organizations and the National Geographic which made breakdancing famous worldwide. Furthermore, he was one of several artist that had done the first hip hop musical tour that went internationally. He also appeared in movies about breakdancing. Another is that he starred in a Hip hop musical in titled "So what happens now". Finally He even have his character in a video game.

Crazy Legs also received awards and citations for his contribution to breakdancing evolution. 11 years after he became president of the RSC, he won the Bessie Awards in 1992 for choreography. Two years after that first award Crazy Legs received the hip hop pioneer award given to him by The Source. In 2003, three awards were given to Crazy Legs, Namely the source youth foundation image award, the arts award from the Bay Shore Schools Art Education Fund, and honored to be the God father of the Jersey City Puerto Rican day parade. Also, a nomination from the MTV for his work for Wyclef Jean was also given to him. Other awards also were given to him. Probably the most high honor that was conferred to Crazy in connection to the Rock Steady Group Legs was the Proclamation of the Mayor of New York City Michael Bloomberg that every 26th day of July to be Rock Steady Crew Day during the anniversary of the group.

    Ahhhhh The Rock Steady Crew....the memories. Make me wanna go but a pink sheepskin and a pair of Lee Jeans and then go head off to The Fever :) LOL
