Create Bed Curtains Without a Canopy Bed Frame

To truly create an attractive bedroom in a feminine style, you need beautiful flowing curtains around your bed. However, if you do not have a canopy bed frame, you may think that it would be impossible. You can create bed curtains without a canopy bed frame by following these simple instructions below.

Materials Needed for the Bed Curtains

The most obvious material needed to create bed curtains is the fabric itself. Light, airy fabrics work best. However, if you wish to build a sturdier structure or use heavier hardware, you can use any type of fabric you like.

Depending on the style of bed curtains you desire, and their support mechanism, you will need an assortment of wood, curtain rods, eyebolts, screws, and clips.

There are several different styles of bed curtains that you may be interested in:

Princess Style Bed Curtains

The first style is the princess bed curtain design. The most popular materials for these are lace, filmy gauze, and netting. In order to create this type of bed curtain, you begin with a large circle. This circle could be an embroidery hoop, or even a hula-hoop if your bed is large. Stitch one end of each gauze fabric panel over the hoop until the entire circle is covered.

When the hoop is covered with the ends of the curtains, set it aside for a moment. Screw an eyebolt into a beam on your ceiling. This should be in the middle or toward the head of your bed. Then, suspend the hoop with ribbon or fine fishing line. Arrange the bed curtains around the bed as you want them.

Classic Rod Style Bed Curtains

This type of bed curtains uses a long, narrow curtain rod to give the curtains their support. The rod is attached to the ceiling with eyebolts and hooks that are screwed securely into beams.

For the rod style bed curtains, you have several options as to how you want to display the curtains. You can have the rod at the head of the bed and just have curtains running down behind your headboard. You can hang the rod at the foot of your bed and swoop the fabric over another rod near the head. You can also put the curtain rod along one of both sides of the bed to surround the bed with the curtains.

Creating bed curtains without a canopy bed frame can be done in various ways. With some simply materials and your creativity, you can decorate your bedroom with these beautiful bed curtain styles. They will truly transform your bedroom into a lovely retreat of relaxation and repose.
