WHAT YOU WILL NEED:
First you will need two or three shelves. You can decide how many you want to use. If you are using longer shelves, about 4 to 5 feet long and 4 or 5 inches wide, then you could probably get away with just using two. If you are using short shelves, about 2 or 3 feet long and 4 or 5 inches wide, then you may want to get three. The choice is up to you and many different looks can be created and use for this faux headboard idea. It's the same concept with many different options.
Next you may need some paint, if you cannot find the shelves in the color that you want. Simply get some pine shelves and paint them yourself with white or black or any other color that you choose. Spray paint works best for this, make sure to sand the shelves if needed. Finally you will simply need a few decor items to place on the shelves. You could use small mirrors, candles, votives, flower vases and more. Be creative.
DESIGN YOUR FAUX HEADBOARD:
To get started, first you will need to paint your shelves if you are going to paint them. Make sure that they have adequate time to dry. Next, you will hang the shelves right above one another in a line. You want to hang them about 3 feet or so above your head where you will be sleeping. Hang the bottom shelf first, about three feet above the bed.
Next hang the second shelf about 6 to 8 inches above the first, and if you are using a third hang it so that it is the same height above the second shelf as the second is above the first. In other words, space the shelves equally to give a modern and clean look. Once the shelves are hung, you can place a few items on them that you want. Make sure that the shelves are very secure, you do not want them to fall on you while you are sleeping. That would be a rude awakening. It's that easy to give yourself a nice modern faux headboard.
