Create Free Ring Tones for Your iPhone

Are you a Mac user? If you are, and you've just recently bought an iPhone that you'd like to get free ring tones, without having to pay the fee that Apple iTunes charges for each free tone, then today is your lucky day. According to an article on LifeHacker.com any Mac user can now create his or her own custom iPhone ring tones for free. In this article I am going to walk you through the steps of creating your own iPhone free ring tones in GarageBand 4.1.1, sending them to iTunes as free ring tones, and to also get them onto your iPhone.

What you will need:
In order to make your custom iPhone ring tones you will need, a Mac computer; Windows users do not yet have the capabilities that Mac users do at the moment. You will also need the latest version of GarageBand, which is 4.1.1 right now. Note that if you don't have this version, you can update your software by clicking on "Software Updates" in one of the toolbar menu's in GarageBand and letting it update; once that's done make sure to restart your computer. In addition to those two things, you will also need iTunes, and the songs that you want to make into ring tones in iTunes.

How you will do it:
The first thing that you are going to have to do, is open up GarageBand and iTunes at the same time. Once you do that, select the song you want from your iTunes library, and use your mouse to drag it into GarageBand; make sure that it's in GarageBand as a new track.

The next thing you will do is click on the button that has two hours following each other that reads "Turn cycle region on or off" when scrolled over. This will activate the tool you will need in order to select the region of the song that you want as your iPhone ring tone.

Once the tool is activated, select approximately 40 seconds or less from the song, and that is what you will export to iTunes as a ring tone.

In order to export the ring tone into iTunes you will need to select "Share from the menu bar, and then select "Send Ring tone to iTunes." Once you have done that, GarageBand will convert the song file you had into a ring tone format, and it will automatically select the section you picked and sync it into your iTunes library as a ring tone file.

How you will get it onto your iPhone:
