Don't scream here are some fantastic ideas to quickly create a cool costume without spending too much money.
Make the Halloween Mask First
First, remember that the mask is the thing everyone focuses on first. Print out masks online and color them in, then cut them out and attach them with string or a rubber band. Be careful rubber bands break and get caught in long hair. You can freehand or cut mask out of old coloring books. Ski mask work well and can be decorated easily. Use your imagination here and talk with your kids they have great ideas too.
Don't forget to cut out the eye and nose holes! Or, you can make a mask out of a paper bag. The process is easy, and once the mask is decorated it can look really creative. Paper bag mask are fun for kids and a great craft idea for Halloween parties. Be sure you have a snug fit, but not to tight. Also, make sure it allows for plenty of room for vision and breathing.
Be Creative When It Comes to the Body Costume
The next step is to focus on the body costume. Most clothing can be crafted into a costume of some sort. For example, all brown clothing can help to create the look of a bear or Daniel Boone. Old clothes can be a zombie or a hobo.
A white sheet is one of the most versatile things you can use for a costume. It can create a ghost, a Roman toga or a medieval warrior. Depending on how the sheet is cut and placed on the body, it is a very easy idea but creative when it comes to the last minute Halloween costume.
If you don't have a sheet to spare you can use towels or pillowcases. Think of some other items you might have lying around the house that you can use like scarves, old jeans, tights or other clothing that would make a great costume. Old sports and dance uniforms can be recycled as Halloween costumes.
Creating the costume with various colorful craft related items also adds a lot of interest, and gives it some uniqueness. Use glitter, sequins, rhinestones, felt, feathers, patches, and anything else you can think of to add a little extra to the costume.
With a little bit of creativity, you can make a Halloween costume for your kids or for you. It will also be something unique since you made it yourself. Halloween comes only once a year and it makes better sense to create something with your own two hands than to spend hard earned money on a commercial made costume that you'll only wear once.
