Create a Home-Office with a Piece of Furniture

Marki E.
You are running a business from your home. Lots of people are doing that in is this new millennium. But, not everyone has the money, or the time, to create a large, elaborate office space. Never fear though, I have the perfect solution. It's the 'office in a box'.

No, I am not trying to sell you anything, except a solution. This is something that you can do yourself. Instead of going through the hassle and headache of a total remodeling job you can create your own office space. You won't need a contractor, much know-how, or even very many tools. The idea is to consolidate a place to store your PC or laptop, your files, etc. You want to lock these things away from accidents, spills, pets, and kids, while keeping them handy.

Furniture is the answer to your dilemma. You can choose from the cheaply made office furniture, if you want to go that route. Or, you can hit the thrift stores. These are the places where you can find the best deals. And, with a little time, and searching, you can find something to work with.

NOTE: Before you seek any piece of furniture for your home, be sure to measure all doors that you will need to move this furniture through. Then, take your tape measure with you while shopping so that you can measure the new piece to be sure it will fit.

An old stereo cabinet, buffet, or wardrobe will all work. You will know when you see it that you have found your 'office'. This purchase does not need to be beautiful, merely functional. You can redecorate it according to your needs and ability later.

First you need to get it home and for this you will need a truck, or van, and some assistance. Older furniture was made of solid wood and is very heavy. So, don't risk an injury, ask for help from a friend.

CAUTION: Since moving furniture is a very labor intensive process, PLEASE observe the proper body mechanics during this activity. 'Lift with your legs and not with your back.' That is the mantra of workers in the furniture industry all around the world.

Ok, now you have your new 'office' at the house. A few cheap modifications, like file hangers, new paint or finish, or maybe some new hardware, and you have your new 'office in a box'. You can organize it in any way that you like.
Now, it's time to get to work.
