Create Inexpensive Artwork for Your Home

Marli
Artwork can get very costly when decorating a home, which is why it comes in handy to know some tricks in how to create inexpensive artwork. Everything from the frame to the supplies can be bought at a discounted price. This is a guide to making beautiful artwork on a tight budget.

The Frame
Frames can be bought at discount prices at arts and crafts supply stores like Hobby Lobby or Michaels. I recently bought some large frames for about $5 each, which is a pretty good price. So if you ever happen to find a good sale on frames, buy a few. That way, if you want to hang a few more pictures, you'll always have a few frames handy.

The Art
The style of your home really dictates what kind of artwork will look best. Luckily, there are plenty of ideas to suit any style. Calendars are a great source of pictures; my mother bought a calendar of sepia photographs of Cambridge, England and framed about eight pictures that now hang in the hallway. For a free project, simply take a trip outdoors. Leaves are beautiful when framed. You can look up the scientific name for each type of leaf you collect and print it at the bottom of the mat that you mount it on. Once it's framed, you can have an entire collection of different types of leaves. If you are patient, you can slowly collect leaves through out the season and end up with a complete cycle of framed leaves that represent all of the seasons. If you own a collection of anything like baseball cards, stamps, or money you can frame that. I have a collection of coins that I've gathered as I've traveled and I mounted them and then put them in a shadow box. It looks quite nice. If you like photography, why not take some amateur photographs? Snap shots of loved ones always give an artistic touch to any home and you get be surround yourself with happy memories. Painting is another great idea, and don't worry if you aren't amazing at it. If you have fun painting, practice until you create something that you love.

Creating artwork is fun, simple, and with a little creativity, it can add warmth and artistic appeal to any home. No matter what budget you have, you can easily find ways to create beautiful artwork from free artwork like leaves to collectibles like stamps. So keep an eye out for new ideas and potential conversation pieces, there's no telling when inspiration will strike.
