Create a Kid's Zombie Costume for Halloween

Gotta love those zombies! Whether it's the freshly-dead or the un-fresh dead, a zombie is a staple in the horror and Halloween pantry. If one of your little zombie wannabe chitlins hope to show off some dead zombie flesh this Halloween, here are a few ideas and tips for making a kids' zombie costume.

Create a Kids' Zombie Costume for Halloween: Clothing

A zombie can't help it that they've been re-animated and no zombie wants to be "just another zombie." A zombie's clothing should show some personality and flare - some undead style that says "Hey! I'm not just another pile of rotting flesh!"

Choose clothing that shows off that style and pizzazz. How about a sparkly prom or pageant dress for a young lady zombie? A nice leisure suit from your local thrift store or a snazzy jogging suit would be a great choice for a young zombie gentleman.

Have some fun with the clothing. A police officer zombie, firefighter zombie, waitress or other uniform can be a fun costume. Military fatigues or hunting camos could also be incorporated into a zombie costume. Choose an old, torn t-shirt and ripped jeans for a more rockin' zombie look.

Create a Kids' Zombie Costume for Halloween: Makeup

In order to be a proper zombie, your little trick-or-treater must look the part. The zombie appearance can be created through simple makeup techniques. Check out the slideshow How to Create Zombie Makeup for Halloween for tips on turning that beloved little face into a brain-munching zombie.

Create a Kids' Zombie Costume for Halloween: Accessories

What kind of accessories does a zombie have? How about some bloody bones to gnaw on or some guts or appendages. A bloody bone for a zombie snack can be made out of a dog bone treat accented with fake blood. Fake, plastic bones can also be found in the Halloween decoration department - just squirt a little of the fake red stuff on.

Fake, bloody appendages or other innards can also be found at Halloween stores or online. I recently found life-sized gummy severed feet and hands at my local Wal-Mart. Check around to see what is available online and in your own area - after all, every little zombie needs a snack while they're on the go!

For a little extra thrill and fun, check your local stores for edible treats shaped like bones or make some cupcakes at home. Add some red food coloring to a can of premixed frosting and drizzle a bit on the bones or the cupcakes. The cupcakes can become any delicious body parts - the best thing is the "bloody" frosting - which will also serve to gruesomize and zombiefy the mouth and teeth.

Whatever you use for the costume and accessories, your undead zombie will enjoy their trick-or-treating - even if the treats are only candy.
