Create a Miniature Water Garden for Your Dollhouse or Miniature Scene

Creating a miniature water garden for your dollhouse or scale miniature scene is more fun and much easier than creating a full size water garden. As you can see in the pictures you do not need a lot of materials. The size and design of your miniature water garden will be determined by the materials you choose. The water gardens in the pictures are one inch scale or 1 inch equals 12 inches in real life. The miniature water gardens could just as easily have been created in ½ inch scale or ½ inch equals 12 inches in real life.

Materials:

Miniature tub, pail or other container

Small pebbles

Assorted artificial greenery or water plants

Clear floral arranging compound

Scissors

Tweezers

Instructions:

For a one inch scale miniature water garden choose a container such as a water pail, tub or other outdoor container no larger than 2 inches high. The metal pail in the photo measures 1 1/8 in high X7/8 in bottom X 1 ¼ in top. The small tub is 7/8 in high X 1 ¼ in bottom X 1 ¾ in top (without handles).

For a one-half scale miniature water garden choose a container such as a water pail, tub or other outdoor container no larger than 1 inch high. I have seen many pails that measure ¾ in high X ½ in bottom X 6/8 in top as well as wash tubs that measure 7/8 in high X 1 3/8 in bottom X 1 7/8 in top.

Purchase an assortment of artificial grasses and other small greenery that would look realistic in your water garden or make an assortment of small plants, grasses, and water plants. If you purchase an assortment of artificial grasses and small greenery cut the plants and try arranging them in the container to get the size and design that you desire. Cut several leaves of the grasses and glue them together to form small clumps and set them aside to dry.

Cover the bottom of the pail or tub with small pebbles. Add small grasses, greenery and/or water plants to create the look that you desire. Prepare the floral arranging compound according to the package directions. Pour the floral arranging compound (artificial water) over the plants to fill the container half full. Allow some of the plant parts to stick out of the compound. Use tweezers to rearrange any of the plants. Allow the compound to set.

Look at pictures of container water gardens to get ideas of how you would like your miniature water garden to look. You may find some pictures of containers that are available in miniature also.
