Create Your Own Babylegs

Kari Smith
Want a cute way to keep your little ones legs warm? Remember legwarmers from the 80's.. well.. they are back.. in a cute form for children. Babylegs are the simple solution to your child's cold legs!

Feet remain free to allow for successful crawling or walking. BabyLegs also help keep socks on and help protect knees during crawling. Also, let baby sleep in a shirt, diaper and BabyLegs! No messing with snaps or pants during those sleep-walking middle of the night diaper changes! (http://www.urbankidsplay.com/)

Babylegs or infant leg warmers :
>> Protect soft knees from harsh surfaces
>> Keep legs warm year round
>> Provide light weight sun protection
>> Make EC'n & potty training easier
>> Jazz up any dance class
>> Make a fun fashion statement with styles for every occasion

And best of all.. THEY ARE EASY TO MAKE... all you need is a moment of your time, a pair of socks and a sewing machine!

Needed:
-A cheap pair of tube socks or knee socks
- Thread in the color to match socks
- sewing machine
- a good half an hour of your time
- a cute baby to model finished product!

STEP 1 Find a cheap pair of cute tube socks or knee socks in a ladies size that you would like to use for your child's babylegs. You can find a cute print that will look great on your child's legs. A good place to find these socks is at your local dollar store or even Walmart or Target in the sale sections.

Then take your sock and pull it straight. Meassure the sock using a ruler or tape measure about 11" down from the top, you may make them smaller for newborns or small babies.

STEP 2 Cut the foot part off of the sock where you have meassured. .

STEP 3 Your sock will then look like a long footless tube. Repeat to the other sock.

STEP 4 Trim the heel and the toe parts off of the foot of the sock.

STEP 5 Repeat on other sock

STEP 6 Now you should have 2 pieces: one long leg piece and a rectangular looking foot piece.

STEP 7 Trim off about 1/2" inch from the long edge of the foot part.

STEP 8: Unfold and lay flat.

STEP 9: Refold bottom edge to top, with right side facing in.

STEP 10: Sew along the long edge with a zig zag stitch

STEP 11: Now you should have a sort of tube, this will be the cuff.

STEP 12 Turn it right side out and fold the short edge together

STEP 13: stitch with zig zag stitch.

STEP 14: Now take the long leg piece and put it inside the cuff you just made.

STEP 15: Stretch it out and smooth out areas where it's bunched up.

STEP 16: Sew the two pieces together with a zig zag stitch.

STEP 17: Turn cuff out and voila!

STEP 18: Repeat steps on other sock.. and woooooot! you have yourself a new pair of babylegs to keep your little ones legs warm! in less then a half an hour!

Good luck and have fun! I have to warn you though, creating these simple but cute babylegs for your child becomes quite addicting!

You can get cute knee highs for this at Target for $2.00.

Actually, I used some of my old toe socks...they're great except for the fact you don't really have that much extra fabric since there are toes and not heel and toe :(

Where is the best place to buy the socks...I checked Wal-Mart and all I found was Christmas knee socks??

thanks :) I think babylegs are so cute. I would think those toe socks in wacky patterns would be great babylegs. :)
