Create Your Own Free Pumpkin Carving Patterns

V. L. Hamlin
It is easy to create your own free pumpkin carving patterns and only takes a few minutes depending on the intricacy of your design. Use your imagination and hand draw your pumpkin carving patterns or use the shapes and tools available on your computer to make them instead.

Design Pumpkin Carving Patterns without a Computer

Give your pumpkins a homey, handmade feel with hand drawn pumpkin carving patterns.

Items You Will Need:
Paper
Stencils
Shaped objects (optional)
Pencil
Scissors/craft knife
Tape
Marker toothpick

Use a pencil to trace a variety of different shapes, using stencils or flat shaped objects, on to a sheet of paper to create the face or design pattern. You could also draw your own design freehand instead of tracing stencils or other items.

Use sharp scissors or a craft knife to cut out the inside of the traced design. Make sure to leave the outside of the design intact.

Tape your pumpkin carving patterns to the pumpkins and trace using a marker or toothpicks before carving out the pumpkin.

Design Pumpkin Carving Patterns on your Computer

Create intricate pumpkin carving patterns using any design software you have on your computer.

Items You Will Need:
Design software
Paper
Printer
Scissors/craft knife
Tape
Marker/toothpicks

Open a new document using any design software available on your computer. Feel free to use word processing software with design capabilities, as well.

Use the shape tools to create a typical jack o' lantern face or use your imagination and draw the design using the pencil tool instead. Consider designing a bat face, a witch's hat or even a cat in the moonlight.

Place a sheet of standard copy paper into your printer. Print your pumpkin carving patterns on to the paper.

Use a sharp pair of scissors or a craft knife to cut out the inside of the patterns.

Tape the patterns to the pumpkin and trace the cut out design with a marker or a toothpick before carving the pumpkin.
