Create Your Own Job

Rita Jan
Unemployment is up, job creation is down and your income needs some vamping up. Why not create your own job? If you can do this, then you will be free of the stress associated with having a boss and the possibility of being fired. However, it takes a lot of guts to create your own job, so do not go about this lightly!

The Job Itself. Your new job must be something that you are either already good at or something which you can learn and be somewhat expert in within a week. If it is something you have always wanted to do but it requires some investment, try to come up with the money. If this is not possible, then think of other jobs you might be interested in. However, do not plan to change your job in less than a year. Being good at what you do will bring in more money, rather than hopping around and trying different things for short periods of time.

Self Discipline. The top priority in self job creation is having and developing self discipline. This can be tricky and stressful, and you may need to change out your friends so that you are around people with higher energy levels. At this point, you need to do whatever it takes to develop your self discipline, using whatever tricks necessary in order to begin the process. If you thrive early in the morning, set your alarm for five and finish in the afternoon. If you are a night owl, then relax in the wee hours and have a set schedule for the evening. If music helps you be more emotionally distant, then get music which will not distract your task, i.e. if you are a writer or editor, only use instrumental music.

Sticking With It. At this point, the fear of failure is incredibly high. You have no idea whether or not the time and energy spent in this venture will pay off and it is easy to wallow in self doubt. If you know someone who is self-employed, then make them your role model, unless they have bad or lazy habits. If you know someone who has high self confidence, ask them to cheer you on whenever you are feeling doubtful. The point is, no matter what you have to do to get there, if you stick with it, you will make money at it. But if you give up in the first quarter, then there is no possibility of winning the game.

Market yourself. People use businesses if the businesses make themselves available. Any extra steps associated with using a business are considered too much hassle and then they simply end up going to Wal-Mart. Whether you are an accountant, artist or construction worker, nobody will buy your services if they do not know about them. You must be incredibly easy to reach and to book. Always be ready to answer calls no matter what, have a set, simplified method of operations, and be able to answer most of the client's questions in two sentences or less. Pausing, not being sure of what to say, thinking about it or mumbling will make your client think that you are not sure of what you do, and they will move on to someone who inspires confidence.

Education. No matter how good you are, you can always be better. Developing your skill, education and understanding will significantly improve the service you offer as well as client referrals. Education will assist you in getting your job done faster, more efficiently and with fewer mistakes. The internet is a storehouse of information, teaching tutorials and how-to videos. Consider becoming bi-lingual to increase your sales.

Creating your own job is the best thing you can do for yourself during a recession or depression. People need a wide variety of services and if you are easy to reach and set up, they will find you and provide you an income. Do not take this lightly, and enjoy the benefits of working for yourself.
