Create Your Own Mother's Day Gift Basket

Ebie Harris
Are you tired of buying flowers or a box of chocolate every Mother's Day? Try making her a basket of her favorite items. Making your own Mother's Day gift basket is such a meaningful option because you can really personalize it for her. Gift baskets can be assembled in every price range, so customize these ideas to fit your budget!

The coffee lover Consider buying mom one of those single serve coffee pots. Those are great and you can purchase her small amounts of all of her favorite coffee. Pick up a cool new on the go coffee cup and you are finished. If a single serve coffee pot is not in your budget consider filling a basket with the following; two coffee cups, bag of her favorite coffee, her favorite flavored creamer (one that does not have to be refrigerated until opened), a few of her favorite magazines for early morning reading, and a chocolate bar.

The book lover Buy mom a small wooden magazine rack that can also hold books. Purchase her a large coffee table book or a book that she has been asking for. If you are not sure what book to purchase you can always grab her a gift card. Purchase her a blanket to curl up with while she reads, a book light for late night reading, and of course a book mark. You could also try making your own blanket and bookmark.

The gardener From any home supply store, buy mom a watering can or a small wheel barrel to place all of her gardening items in. Then, fill the watering can or small wheel barrel with a small set of gardening tools, gloves, seeds or flowers, and a book on tips for gardening.

The spa goer Pamper your mom with a spa gift card or a day at the spa. If that is not in your budget, choose spa items for her to use at home. Candles, bath beads, bath robe, comfortable soft socks, slippers, nail polish and file, and lotion are all good options.

The movie lover If your mom loves movies consider filling a basket with her favorite DVDs, an assortment of boxed candies, and different flavored popcorn. Most grocery or big retails stores sell disposable popcorn containers. These containers resemble the ones you see at the movies and add a little more fun to the evening. A gift card for the movies will top everything off. Now mom can decide if she wants to have movie night at home or at the local movie theater.

The cook Purchase a good size cooking pan and place any the following items inside--cooking book, cooking utensils, cooking spray, spices and oils, and a nice serving dish. Purchasing a gift card for cooking lessons is always another possibility, depending on your budget.

The music lover Concert tickets are a must for any music lover. A cheaper alternative would be to check out local venues and see when they have live entertainment. Then you can take mom for an evening out together. Other options include buying mom some of her favorite CDs or burning one, a gift card for iTunes or another music site, and perhaps new speakers for her radio. More expensive options would be subscribing to satellite radio for her car or paying for music lessons.

The practical person We've all heard our moms say, "I really like it, but you shouldn't have bought this!" Well here are some suggestions for that practical mom that she won't be able to resist. A gift card for gas, gift card for groceries, paper towels, shampoo/conditioner, lotions, and air fresheners. Place all items in a fun, new decorative basket that she can use in the kitchen or around the house.

The animal lover Donate money to a local animal shelter in your mother's name. It's a win-win situation for everyone; the animals and for your mom, the animal lover. You can also purchase a book or calendar of her favorite animal. Spending a day together at the zoo would be another nice touch for mom.
