Real True Blood Drinks Are Red

Vampires are hot right now with the HBO series, True Blood, and Twilight leading the way as the current vampire favorites. True Blood is a vampire HBO series based on a book series by Charlaine Harris featuring a telepathic bar waitress named Sookie Stackhouse. In Sookie's Bon Temp Louisiana world, vampires are real and have come out to the public because of the invention of a synthetic blood called True Blood which allows the vampires to show the public they are harmless because they no longer need to feed on humans. In Sookie's world, there are also other supernatural beings such as shape shifters, goddesses, werewolves, were-tigers, were-leopards, gnomes, fairies, and more though you have to read the book series to meet them all at this time.

With such an exciting vampire world to emulate and with it being the Halloween season, the timing is perfect to host a True Blood Halloween party this year. A True Blood party theme will probably be an adults only party, just because the HBO series, True Blood, can be quite explicit on adult matters. And with any great party, you will need drinks, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic for the non-drinkers like myself.

To add True Blood drinks to your Halloween party this year, you have lots of choices to make before your party date. It will be a good idea to send out invitations that say you are having a True Blood Halloween party and tell your guests to come as their favorite True Blood character. AC Content Producer Shannon Wilson has done numerous True Blood character costume idea articles that can help you get started on your favorite character costume. With all your basic True Blood Halloween party details planned, it's time to turn your entire attention to your True Blood drinks. If you have the budget for it, you can buy bottles of the "real" True Blood drink that looks just like the bottles used on the HBO True Blood show. Of course it's not real blood but is made from the blood orange and is lightly sweet and tart (and of course, red in color). You can buy a four-pack of 'Tru Blood' at the HBO Shop here
at a cost of $16.00 with standard shipping of $8.95 and an additional shipping surcharge of $3.00 or $27.95. 'Tru Blood' is also available in a 24-pack here for $96.00 plus $23.95 shipping and an additional shipping surcharge of $10.00 for a total of $129.95.

If you don't have the budget to purchase authentic HBO True Blood, there are other True Blood drinks you can serve at your Halloween party. The only fact to consider when serving any True Blood drink at your Halloween party is that it should be red. Red is the color of blood which is what vampires drink ergo, you need red drinks to stand in as True Blood drinks at your party.

Red drinks that can be called True Blood drinks at your Halloween party can be as simple as plain red wine or a Remy Martin Red 32. It can also be something as easy to mix as a Bloody Mary made with tomato juice and beer or vodka. You can even use plain Strawberry or Cherry Kool-Aid to make non-alcoholic True Blood punch drinks. If you freeze ice cubes out of the red drink to add to your True Blood drink, it will be even better.

You can create a True Blood drink using V8 Fusion Strawberry Banana as a base and adding either cream soda or 7-Up. You can stop there to serve it as non-alcoholic or add a few ounces of vodka for an alcoholic drink. What makes V8 Fusion Strawberry Banana so good for a True Blood drink is because it has a thicker consistency than just plain fruit juice. To serve your V8 Fusion Strawberry Banana True Blood drink, mix it in a large punch bowl and add small slices of blood orange to float on top of the punch and toss in a couple of plastic eye balls for an extra creepy touch. V8 Fusion fruit/vegetable drink blends are available at your local grocery store or from Amazon.com.

If you want to serve your True Blood drinks in individual bottles; start saving your empty water bottles or other drink bottles. Wash them thoroughly, in a dishwasher preferably, then add your True Blood drinks and chill, either in a refrigerator or have them standing in a giant tub of ice. You can make True Blood labels to attach to your empty bottles so your guests will know that they are enjoying True Blood. You can either make your own True Blood drink labels and print them out or you can go here to print out a 'Tru Blood' bottle template.

If all else fails and you just don't like any of the red drinks available for your Halloween party, then consider serving your regular drinks with several drops of red food coloring added and in red goblets. You can serve drinks in red glass goblets for your party or you can even buy plastic Halloween goblets to serve your True Blood drinks in. There is an excellent selection of red goblets available at the Madonna Inn Online Store here.

For a huge list of alcoholic drinks that would fit into your True Blood Halloween party theme, check out the Halloween and Cocktail Recipes page here. They have different categories of Halloween drinks such as vampires (for example Bloody Vampire and Vampire Juice), witches (for example Red Witch and Witch Hunt), ghosts (for example Blackbeard's Ghost and Ghostini), and spooky drinks (for example Bloodbath and Bloody Brain) and their ingredients lists.

Let your imagination soar for your True Blood Halloween party and just consider that your True Blood drinks can consist of ANY combination of drinks, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic. As long as you have a red drink as your main ingredient, you can add any blend of tasty ingredients that you want. If you want a drink that is slightly thicker, consider adding blended fruit or yogurt to almost any liquid. Whatever you decide to use to create your True Blood drinks, always have a designated driver or a Taxi company phone number handy on speed dial at the end of the party for any friends who will be drinking alcohol.
