Create Your Own Wall Stickers to Decorate Your Home

V. L. Hamlin
Easily make your own wall stickers to decorate your living room, bedroom, kitchen or even the bathroom featuring decorative design accents or favorite phrases in just a few simple steps. Surprise your children by decorating their bedroom walls with small or large stickers featuring their favorite cartoon characters, animals or even the words to their favorite songs. Decorate the wall in your home office with motivational quotes or words of inspiration.

In order to get started you will need to gather the following items:

Printed designs, optional
Paper and drawing supplies, optional
Scissors/craft knife
Contact paper

Create your designs on paper. Feel free to design your images on the computer and print them out on regular copy paper, card stock or even photo paper. For those feeling creative, draw or paint your designs by hand on to any paper type. Consider the theme of the room you want to decorate with the wall stickers and base your design on the room or create unique designs featuring your favorite things instead. You could also make your favorite photographs in to wall stickers as well. Make sure you use copies, so you do not ruin the original photo.

Use a pair of sharp scissors or a craft knife to cut the excess, blank paper away from the design or cut the focal point or person out of a photograph. Cut a piece of contact paper that is larger than the design or photo. Remove the backing from the contact paper and then position the design or photo, facing down, over the sticky side of paper. Use scissors to cut the excess contact paper away from the design, leaving a border of about one-half inch around the picture or design.

Place the stickers on any wall in your home. Press down around the edges with your fingers to smooth out any air bubbles under the contact paper. These stickers are easy to remove or move around the room as desired, so do not worry if you do not like where it is, you can always move it. Contact paper is generally safe to place on the and should not ruin your paint or wall paper.
