Kids love to help create and make things and they also love to celebrate holidays and special occasions. Easter is no exception, having kids make the basket that their candy will be in on Easter morning only builds the excitement and anticipation. Follow these steps to help your kids create their own paper weave Easter baskets.

ITEMS NEEDED: You will only need a few items to create this colorful paper weave Easter basket. First you will need two colors of construction paper that you want to make your basket with. Make it two bright spring colors, like purple and yellow, yellow and green, or purple and pink. Let the kids choose their two favorite colors for their own basket. Next, you will need some glue and scissors.

CREATE A WEAVE PAPER EASTER BASKET: To start creating your weave paper easter basket. First cut a lot of even strips out of the colored construction paper. You should cut the paper long ways and cut it into about 1 inch wide strips. Next, using all of the same color you will build the bottom of your basket first. First, simply layer the strips back and forth so that you have a braided center for the bottom of your basket and have loose edges on all four sides. Glue the pieces together as you go so that the bottom of your basket is more secure and doesn't fall apart.

Next, you will start building the sides of the paper weave Easter basket. To do this start at the bottom of edge of the braided weave, where the ends start to get loose, and start folding up the loose edges and weaving the other color of construction paper in between the loose edges of the bottom. Glue these as you go as well. You may need a couple piece or more of the second color to get all the way around the basket. Continue to do this making sure that your colors are in and out on the opposite places when you look at the basket, making it have a checkered look with the two colors. Once you have reached the top, you can glue one solid color around the inside of the basket to tack all of the loose edges together. Then simply attach one more strip of paper onto the top to make a handle for the basket. Then your paper weave Easter basket is finished.
