Create Picture Frames and Magnetic Pick-Up Tools with Old DVD Cases

Upcycle or Recycle Your Unused DVD Cases

There was time when a pack of replacement DVD cases cost as much as a new DVD at discount stores such as Wal-Mart, but now many homes have acquired a back stash of plastic DVD cases from DVDs that have been lost or rendered unplayable. These DVD cases can be upcycled or recycled to create a couple of fun craft projects or a practical household tool.

Recycled DVD Case - An Magnetic Pick Up Tool

The size of a DVD case is perfect for holding three side by side magnets within the confines of the snap closures which makes it an ideal product for creating a pick up magnetic tool instead of paying retail for a similar item. First, I recommend decorating your DVD case with a fun paper or lining by removing the previous DVD cover art and inserting a design of your choice. Place your magnets inside the DVD case with a touch of adhesive. Snap the case closed and you're ready to go.

Whenever you knock the paper clip container off of the top of your desk or tip over a container of screws, use your new magnetic pick-up tool to pick-up the loose pieces. One sweep over the service of the plastic case with your hand or a piece of cardboard will sweep all of the items picked-up back into their home container without manual removal.

Recycled DVD Case - Picture Frames

To create a different look for photo displays in your home, especially around your home entertainment center, consider using an old DVD case to display your pictures. On a horizontal display, a DVD case can hold a 5 by 7 inch picture. When displayed vertically, the same case can comfortably hold two 3 by 4 inch pictures.

Recycled DVD Case - A Picture Frame with a Twist

Using the DVD case in the same manner outlined above, you could also stash personal mementos within the case itself or on the outer side opposite of your displayed photo. For example, if you had a momentous movie date and framed a couple of snapshots on the outside of the case, you could display your movie ticket stubs in the back.

There are a lot of interesting ways to reutilize or upcycle old DVD cases that take advantage of their plastic snap closures and clear display sleeves. The three projects outlined above are just the tip of the creative iceberg!
