Create a Pink & Zebra Print Storage Box

Landra Lynn Jacobs
This fun pink and zebra print storage box can have a variety of uses when finished. Use in a home office, a bathroom space, or a living room space to hold small objects. Or, use as gift wrapping for a friend.

For this project, you will need (per storage box):

- One unfinished cardboard storage box with removable lid in any size or shape (available at craft supply shops)
- Krylon Indoor Outdoor Primer in All-Purpose White
- Krylon Indoor Outdoor Paint in Watermelon Pink
- Krylon Indoor Outdoor Paint in Gloss Black
- Krylon Crystal Clear Acrylic Finishing Spray
- Zebra print scrapbook paper
- Craft knife
- Self healing mat
- Mod Podge or other style of decoupage medium
- Sponge brush
- Craft roller
- Damp paper towel
- Scissors
- One inch wide pink satin ribbon
- Hot glue gun and glue sticks
- Newspaper and/or a large drop cloth

Cover the space you will be crafting your storage box at with newspaper sheets and/or a large drop cloth. Remove the lid from the unfinished cardboard storage box. Spray all sides of the lid and all sides of the box with two or more coats of Krylon Indoor Outdoor Primer in All-Purpose White. Dry completely.

Turn the bottom box portion upside down. Paint the outside and bottom or the box with three to five coats of Krylon Indoor Outdoor Paint in Watermelon Pink. Paint the top and sides of the lid with three to five coats of Krylon Indoor Outdoor Paint in Gloss Black. Allow both pieces to dry for several hours before continuing on with the project.

Set the pink painted portion of the box aside until the end. Lay the sheet of zebra print scrapbook paper face down on the self healing mat. Use a ruler and pencil to create a measurement on the paper the exact size of the top of the box lid. (Do not include the sides of the box lid in your measurement.) Cut out this paper piece using a craft knife.

Spread a thick layer of Mod Podge or other decoupage medium on the back of the zebra print paper using a sponge brush. Adhere the printed paper to the center of the lid. Smooth the paper with a small craft roller to prevent any bubbling. Wipe away all excess glue on the lid using a damp paper towel. Dry for a few hours before spraying with Krylon Crystal Clear Acrylic Finishing Spray. Leave to set overnight.

Cut a piece of one inch wide pink satin ribbon long enough to wrap horizontally across the lid of the box, down both sides, and wrap around the to underside by a half inch. Heat up the hot glue gun. Secure the ribbon in place with glue, wrapping the ends underneath the box lid to the other side. Cool completely before placing the lid back on the box.
