Create a Soft Chignon Hairstyle

Faye Morgan
This season many of the celebrities are sporting soft looking chignon hairstyles that are worn low on the back of their heads. I love this look because it is so versatile and easy to pull off. Almost anyone can wear it. Get this great look by following my easy to understand instructions. Be sure to read on for more styling ideas for your soft chignon at the end of the instructions that can help you decide how to dress this look up a bit and give you the versatility every woman needs.

First, separate the hair on the crown of your head, and lightly tease or "rat" your hair about one or two inches from the scalp, moving from the front to the back of your head. Use a large paddle styled brush to smooth the hair back.

Next, pull your hair back using your hands and positioning it at the nape of your neck. Gather your hair into an elastic ponytail holder securing it a bit loosely. I suggest that you opt for a clear elastic band so that it doesn't show through as much which can take away for the soft look you are going for.

Then, lightly tease the hair underneath your ponytail a little bit and smooth it with a large paddle brush. Wrap your ponytail around the elastic band and tuck the ends of your hair under the bun. For an alternative look, twist the ponytail before wrapping it around the elastic band, and be sure to totally tuck and secure ends underneath your bun.

Last, loosely secure your soft chignon with hair pins. I prefer to use bobby pins. Mist your great new do lightly with a soft hair setting spray. Now you are all set to take on the day with a great hair do!

This great look can be worn to the office, on a date, or just to go to the store. It is quick and easy to do and is well worth the effort. I imagine that is why so many ladies have opted to style their hair this way for the spring season. If you would like to dress this style up a bit you could add a hair chopstick to the bun or a beautiful hair clip or comb above the chignon. I recommend setting the ponytail up a bit higher if you plan to use a chopstick to help secure it.
