Tropical and ocean themed weddings seem to be very popular these days even if you aren't going to get married on the beach. There are still plenty of ways to create a tropical or ocean themed wedding right at home. This article will give you an idea to make very festive and unique centerpieces for your wedding reception tables. You could also make a larger version of the centerpiece to use in the wedding and on the wedding party's reception table or by the door at the reception.

VASES OR BOWLS: First you will need to get some round vases or bowls. You may consider using small, round fish bowls, since you will be putting fish in the bowls. The bowls or vases should be a pretty good size about 8 inches to 1 and 1/2 feet tall.

FLOWERS: For your flowers you could use fake or real flowers. Simply make sure that you find a tropical flower. You could use flowers such as plumerias, orchids, or water liles. You could even use floating water liles to make the centerpieces really spectacular. Simply visit a craft store or a flower shop and have an associate lead you to the tropical flower section to pick out your flowers. There is a large variety of tropical flowers that could be used, you simply need to make sure that the flowers match your wedding colors.

FISH: Next, you will need to get some tropical fish to put in your centerpiece bowls. You could visit a retail store to get these fish, but you probably should visit a pet store or shop online to find really tropical fish. Tropical fish are gorgeous and will bring life and brilliance to your wedding reception centerpieces. You may want to wait until a day or two before the wedding to purchase the fish, especially if you are not good at keeping fish alive. You do not want dead fish floating in your centerpieces. Also, make sure to ask the person at the pet store what type of water you should use for the centerpieces so that the fish do not die.

CREATE YOUR TROPICAL CENTERPIECES: To create your centerpieces, you should wait until a day or two before the wedding to put the centerpieces together. Simply put water in each one of your bowls and put the fish in the water. Then you can add the flowers to the bowls or vases, make sure they are not too tall and will stay in the vases. If they are top heavy and want to fall out you may need to cut them down a little, only cut a little off at a time to make sure you do not take too much off of the stem. Once your flowers are in place your centerpieces will be ready for show time.
