Create a Unique Vampire Costume This Halloween

As cliche as it may seem, one of the best Halloween costume ideas still remains quite traditional. Vampire costumes in particular are always quite popular. The best thing about this type of costume is that it is not only inexpensive to create but is very versatile. No two little vampires look quite the same on Halloween. However, there are a few ways to further personalize and/or modernize one of the most favorite Halloween costumes.

Take a few clues from your favorite vampires on the big screen before designing your vampire Halloween costume. There are many characters to choose from. This is also great for small children because the characters do not have to be scary. As a matter of fact, many can be silly or funny. Teenage vampires, Dracula himself, or a character such as the "Little Vampire" are all some noteworthy Halloween costume ideas. Once you have decided on your vampire, it's time to put the basic look together before adding the detail.

Almost all vampire Halloween costume ideas have a few basic things in common. The costume will require a cape, vampire teeth or fangs, fake blood, and face paint. All of these items can easily be purchased for under a few dollars. The cape can usually be made from an old article of clothing, blanket, or other unused materials lying around the home. Last Halloween, instead of purchasing fake blood at the last minute I opted to mix a little food coloring with a small amount of water. If you choose to do this, you do not need to dilute very much. The "blood" should be thick, similar to a paste. This literally only takes minutes if that.

The next step in making the Halloween costume unique is to add your own personal touch. If going for the traditional vampire look, consider putting your child in a black vest, black pants, with a white button up shirt underneath. Use an old brooch or similar jewelry item to create a medallion. Hair can easily be slicked back or combed over. For a more updated/ modern look to this age old Halloween costume classic, tweak the look up a little bit. Allow your child to spike his or her hair, and spray paint. One of my favorite is the punk vampire look with the green and/or purple spray paint in the hair.

These are only a few small Halloween costume ideas. The vampire costume is a timeless classic with many options. The best thing about the particular costume is that children and adults alike, can dress up as these creepy character.
