Create a Unity Sand Vase for Your Wedding

During the wedding ceremony a lot of couples utilize the lighting of a unity candle. The unity candle symbolizes the uniting of two people by both using a taper candle to light the bigger unity candle at the same time. However, there is a more unique alternative to the unity candle. The unity sand vase is fun and a great addition to a beach or nautical themed wedding.

The individual holders for the sand can be either smaller vases or cups. An alternative for the individualized sand would be a small wooden box to hold the sand. With this wooden box both the bride and groom would use a small spade to scoop their sand into the unity vase. The sand will need to be two different colors. You can choose light sand and darker sand or you can choose colored sand. The choice is up to you as to what sand to use just make sure you have two different colors. The unity vase will need to be clear so that the differences in the sand can be seen. There is no set size for the main unity vase, just find something that will be decorative and unique to you. In addition you will need plastic wrap and a ribbon in your choice of color.

To set up for the unity sand vase, you will pour equal amounts of each color of sand into the individual vases or cups. Set them on both sides of the unity vase. You can add additional elements to this by using sea shells to decorate around the unity sand vase. Flowers can also be used on the table to bring more life to the area. These additional decorations are completely up to you and how much you want to spend on this.

During the ceremony both the bride and groom will each pick up their individual sand and began to pour them at the same time into the unity vase. By pouring at the same time you will get a mixing of both types of sand. This mixing of colors will symbolize your mixing of your lives together as one complete life. Once all the sand has been poured into the unity sand vase use the plastic wrap on the top to close the vase up. Add a decorative ribbon along the top and tie into a bow to finish the unity sand vase.
