Creating a Closet Vocal Booth: Advance Assembly

If you want to up your game by giving the booth a more professional look then this is the advance materials assembly. By picking this method not only will your booth be more presentable but it will also trap and capture a lot more sound due to the Studio Foam.

Step 1: The Studio Foam and wedges usually come in pads or strips that you can adjust in many different ways. Take all of the pads or wedges and lay them out side by side so you can see how much you will need. (If closet is rather small then you will have to trim pieces so they all fit together well, DO NOT OVERLAP STUDIOFOAM!)

Step 2: Place Studio Foam glue on the back of the pads and began to line them against the wall side by side. Be careful not to get too much of the glue on your hands as it's extra extra sttiiiiickkky. Your find your task gets a lot harder if you get too much on your hands. (Stay clear of the liquid adhesives that eat through studio foam over time.)

Step 3: Place Studio Foam everywhere except the floor of the closet. Having the foam on the floor would cause it to be very unbalanced and uncomfortable to stand on. Use carpet or other materials mentioned in Basic Assembly to line the floor.

Step 4: Do the vocal test in the booth by talking loud or even screaming to see if any spots are left uncovered. The denseness' of the Studio Foam should make it practically impossible for echo spots to still exist in the closet. However once again if you want to have a couple of echo spots, just remove some of the foam.

Step 5: As always still make sure that there is sufficient room for ventilation such as a fan. A room filled with Studio Foam seems to heat up 10 times faster compared to carpet and blankets. The foam absorbs and creates heat which makes for an all around "hot azz booth." Auralex Studio Foam is light and doesn't heat up as fast as other foam I've used in the past, so that's what I recommend.

Step 6: Evaluate your booth by going thru the checklist to make sure everything is safe in place and no pieces are left hanging around, especially by the closet door. You need to be able to close the door all the way, otherwise you will have sound leaking and all the padding will mean nothing. Once everything is double checked and official, STAND BACK AND PEEP YOUR NEW SOUNDPROOF CLOSET.
