Creating Ebook Covers the Professional Way

John Gold
To sell an ebook, it is essential to have a graphic of what your ebook looks like. This increases your sales dramatically, simply because people like to see what they're buying. Do you ever wonder how all those ebook authors make such a nice cover? Maybe you think that they hire someone to design one? Maybe you think that they have a creative talent that is way beyond yours? If you don't quite know what I'm talking about yet, here are some links to nice ebook covers.

There are also sites that have dvd covers, spiral notebooks, cd covers and paperback covers. It is entirely possible that they hire someone to make a cover for them. The price of this is at least $50-$100 a graphic. I can guarantee you that there is a much less expensive and easier way to make ebook covers in the long term. It will cost you more money upfront, but it's only a one time fee. There are basically two software packages that you need.

First, you need Adobe Photoshop. You can't use any other graphics program, even the popular open source program, GIMP, because you need to use Photoshop Actionscripts. If you want to make money like the professionals, then you're going to have to spend some money. The good news is that you can write it off as a business expense at the end of the year.

The second piece of software that you need is Cover Action Pro. This program does about 80% of the work for you when creating an ebook cover. All you need to do is design a flat graphic and it automatically turns it into a 3d book cover. How easy is that?! This has been used for Day Job Killer, $7 Secrets, and a slew of other companies on the internet. They even have a free video on their website that shows you the simple process of turning a simple graphic into a cover graphic. It automatically makes about 200 adjustments in this process. This can be found at www.coveractionpro.com.

Even if you don't have the artistic ability to create your own graphic, you can use one of their many included ones. After you watch the video on the website, you'll realize just how many people on the internet use this program. The site also has a decent traffic rating on alexa.com. If you're serious about making a professional ebook cover, but don't want to hire a professional, then this is the way to go.

As you can see, it's not as hard to make graphics as it seems. It just takes a little time and some investment. You can even buy stock photos at numerous places on the internet to use for the foundation of your ebook cover. All you would need to do is move the pictures around and add some text.

I agree with Leigha, well written and very informative for newbies. Check this out aswell as coveraction pro...It's also pretty awesome, it's eBook cover software which uses photoshop actionscripts to do most of the design work for you.
