Fall will be here before you know it and during this time a lot of homeschooling parents want to keep their kids engaged in educational activities. Depending on where you live Fall can be a beautiful time of year to head out and do a bit of exploring. By making a list you will save yourself a lot of time and energy, trying to supplement your lessons. Below are a few ideas and suggestions on how you can create a Fall activity list.
Plan your destinations
You can start by planning out where you want to go and when. Start by taking a look at your lesson plan and see when you will be covering certain subjects. For example if you will be covering how leaves change in Fall, you can plan a trip to a local park. A nature walk can be very educational and a lot of fun. You can also check out local museums to see what special programs they may have for Fall.
Free vs. Paid
Since so many families are currently on budgets, paying for the expense of trips can be difficult. Doing a big of research may help you to find the free programs that are available. If you can only find programs that you have to pay for, then you may want to look for discounts. For example some museums offer discounts if you purchase their yearly memberships. Be sure to take the time, and calculate the cost.
Prioritize your list
Making a list also helps you to prioritize what you and the kids want to cover the most. After you have made your list have the kids pick which ones they want to do the most. This way if something happens and you are unable to get to all of the activities, you will at least cover the most important items first.
Give teens more options
It is very easy to plan out trips for younger children, but it can be a bit more difficult for older children. If you are homeschooling teenagers, than you will want to give them a few more options to work with. Why not have them do the leg work. They can research different activities in the area and then choose the ones that they like the most. If you have more than one child, you can then combine their lists, and see if you can plan trips that all will enjoy and agree to.
