Creating a Faux Canopy Bed

Creating a Faux Canopy

A canopy can give your bedroom a very romantic and elegant appearance. It can also present a princess and feminine side of your bedroom. It all depends on the style you choose. Unless you have high ceilings and a large bedroom, canopy beds will consume a lot of space. If you have a small bedroom but still desire a canopy bed, I would recommend creating a faux canopy bed. There is no set method just be creative. There are several canopy bed creations. You can create a faux poster bed; a faux canopy using netting, scarf canopy and the list continues.

Materials:

Bathroom towel rings set

Measuring tape

Stud locator

Approximately 16 yards of fabric

First, choose the color scheme of your bedroom. From that color scheme, select an accent color that will really make your room pop. It is important to select the right color. Choosing the wrong color can ruin your color scheme by drawing attention away from the color scheme. Make sure the color you select will enhance and not overwhelm the room.

Next measure the ceiling from your headboard to the foot of your bed, from left to right across the headboard and footboard. Now using the stud finder, locate the stud beam. You want to find the stud beam to secure the canopy. Make markings to indicate where you will want the canopy to hang. A stud finder can be purchased at Home Depot or Wal-Mart. The stud is a solid piece that can handle the weight of the fabric. If you simply drill a hole in the ceiling and hang the canopy pieces, it will only take a small tug and the entire canopy will fall.

Now take the bathroom towel set of your choice and organize the pieces. A towel ring set can be purchased at any home décor retailer. Read the instructions for your towel ring set to ensure proper installation. Take the first towel ring and place it where you made your markings. Install the towel ring into the stud tightly. Install the remaining towel rings. With each towel ring, take a moment to ensure the rings are properly lined.

Once the towel rings are installed and level, it is time to hang the fabric. When selecting your fabric, be mindful not to select heavy fabric that will put to much pressure on your ceilings. Determine the canopy style prior to cutting the fabric. I chose a poster bed appearance. Remember if you choose this method, you may need more fabric because the fabric will need to drop to the floor. If your ceilings are 6ft high, you will need approximately 4 yards of fabric for each ring. I measured 12ft/4yards of fabric and cut 4 pieces. If you are happy with your measurements, hang the fabric through the rings and enjoy your new design.
