Creating a House Cleaning Schedule

Stacy Hensley
We all know that cleaning the house is never fun, but unfortunately it is something that has to be done. There are great cleaning products that can help with some of the chores but the main trick to keeping your home clean is to create a house cleaning schedule. This can help eliminate some of the time and work that it will take to keep your home organized and tidy looking. Making a daily chart on poster board or a large wall calendar will help you know which items need to be done each day.

House Cleaning Schedule-Daily Chores
Some chores will need to be performed each day. These will include things like basic straightening up, dishes, the bathroom and any other chores you need to do on a daily basis. People with big families may prefer to do one or two loads of laundry each day to keep it from getting too backed up. Add each of your daily house cleaning items to your calendar.

House Cleaning Schedule-Weekly Chores
Now it is time to add in the things that do not need to be done every day. You may want to vacuum, mop or dust twice a week. If you prefer doing laundry all in one day this can be added. Try to even the calendar out so that each day you are completing at least one chore that doesn't have to be done everyday. Some home cleaning jobs may take more time than others so try to schedule accordingly. Don't schedule a chore that takes 2 or three hours on the same day that Susie Q has piano lessons or Billy has a three hour ball practice. Do the more lengthy chores on days where you have the extra time.

House Cleaning Schedule-Monthly Chores
Schedule time each month for the entire family to join in and help with extras like yard work or cleaning windows. You can work together as a family to clean out the garage or whatever bigger chores need to be taken care of for the month. This can be done on a Saturday when there is more free time to take care of these extras.

Don't be afraid to include the kids in the daily house cleaning chores as well. They may not like it but it does help teach them responsibility. It will not be the end of the world if they have to keep their own room clean or help take out the garbage a few times a week. Just be sure to choose chores that are age appropriate.

Now that you have your house cleaning schedule filled out you can display it somewhere that the entire family can see it. The kitchen is usually a good choice because it is one room that everyone in the family uses regularly. Follow the house cleaning schedule that you have set up and your home will be more organized and clean on a daily basis.

Nice job! I like to separate mine into daily, weekly, monthly and seasonal as well.
