Creating Inexpensive Decorative Centerpieces for Fall: The Stacked Sticks Vase Holder

Natural Crafts for Fall Decorating

Angela W. La Fon
Shortly after back to school,
The weather begins to slowly school,
The fall colors offer a spectacular view,
We're ready for a new look inside our homes too.

Are you looking for ideas for a natural, fall centerpiece? Are you ready for fall decorating? Maybe you want a really unique Thanksgiving table centerpiece but you don't want to spend your Thanksgiving grocery budget on decorating.

For this unique centerpiece idea you'll need four things; your memories of building with Lincoln Logs, sticks, reusable glass or plastic jars and a glue gun.

Remember playing with Lincoln Logs and the way you started out with two logs to the front and back and layered the next two left and right and repeated until you had built your very own log cabin? Well creating this fall centerpiece vase is just about that easy but now that you're all grown up you'll get to use a hot glue gun too.

The Stacked Sticks Fall Table Centerpiece:

-is easy to create in less than twenty minutes
- is a green craft that uses natural and recycled materials
-can be made in a variety of sizes
-works with any color scheme
-is a very inexpensive fall decorating idea

Steps for Creating this Unique Fall Centerpiece:

First choose the jar, or jars, you'd like to use. This craft can be made in any size from large centerpieces using a jar like a pickle barrel to a medium centerpiece using a jar like a mayonnaise jar to a mini using baby food size jars. What's super cool is to create a trio in three different sizes or one large for a table centerpiece with several minis tucked around a buffet.

Now take a hike. Seriously. At least take a walk and collect your sticks. Better to go ahead and get more than you think you need. You'll want a thickness about the size of a marker. Test the sticks for break-ability. You'll want to be able to snap them into the sizes you need but make sure that they are not so dry and brittle that your craft will not be durable.

Cover your work space and heat up your hot glue gun. Now looking at your vase size, break your sticks into pieces that are a couple of inches longer than the sides of the jar to create corners and overlap.

Place the first two on the sides. For spacing, you'll want it to be close to the jar but still to leave enough room for lifting the jar out for cleaning. Begin building your log cabin look around your vase jar, using the hot glue gun to secure each layer in the corners. If all of your sticks are broken into size, this process moves very quickly.

Optional: You can even hot glue on some acorns for even an more unique fall centerpiece look.

Add in your fall flowers and foliage to fill your centerpieces. Don't forget to unplug your hot glue gun. Fix yourself a mug of warm apple cider and admire your new fall centerpieces.

This Fall Centerpiece Craft is perfect for:

-decorating your home for the autumn season
-fall party decorations
-Halloween party decorations
-a Thanksgiving table centerpiece
-fall wedding showers or casual wedding receptions
-a fall party hostess gift
-a creative get well bouquet holder
