If you are unfamiliar with either of the books above, they both deal with the Law of Attraction and how our thoughts can shape our reality. In the Abraham series Esther Hicks basically channels a guide named Abraham who teaches how to apply the Law of Attraction in our everyday lives.
I personally was very surprised over all the hoopla over the Abraham series. Please don't misunderstand me. I am a follower of positive thinking and how thoughts, both positive and negative can manifest changes in one's life. I have read the teachings of the forefathers of the "The Secret," people like Charles F. Haanel, Napoleon Hill, Edgar Cayce, Catherine Ponder, and many others. The reason for my "surprise" over its popularity is that 1) Abraham's teachings are not new and 2) There was a book written back in 1987 called "Creating Money Keys to Abundance." In this book, information is imparted to the authors via guides named Orin and DaBen. These guides teach about the Law of Attraction, Manifesting, Affirmations, etc. So, it is very puzzling to me how these teachings while very similar to those in the Hicks' books never received the same kind of publicity.
I have read and re-read "Creating Money Keys to Abundance" over and over. The book was so well written, in my opinion, that I bought 10 copies and gave them to people at random who were struggling with financial situations in their lives.
This book is very easy to read and understand. It's broken up into 4 sections. These 4 sections are entitled: Section 1 Creating Money, Section 2 Developing Mastery, Section 3 Creating Your Life's Work and Section 4 Having Money. Each section is a step-by-step process of how to learn to use the natural laws of attraction, abundance, etc in your everyday life. At the end of every single chapter, not just major sections, there are exercises for the reader to complete. These exercises not only help the reader make sure he or she understands the material, but the exercises help the reader to gradually learn how to incorporate positive thinking and all the natural laws into their day to day life.
One of the main reasons I enjoy and recommend this book is because it focuses on creating money in your life. Of course it talks about the need to have balance in all areas of one's life like health and happiness, but its main focus is how to create money. I think is great because money is something tangible that can be seen. If people can see for themselves in a tangible way how to manifest a desire, then I think people would be more apt to subscribing to this belief system.
The other good part of these teachings is that they can be applied to any religion or current belief system. Whether you're a Hindu, Christian, Muslim, Jew or worshipper of any other religion, these natural laws and teachings can all be used by you and incorporated into your specific belief system. The laws work for everyone.
"Creating Money Keys to Abundance" gives the reader affirmations to repeat each day. The book also teaches the reader how to write their own affirmations to have a positive effect in their life. The reader will learn how to figure out what he or she really wants out of life. The book teaches that saying you want to "be happy" is really meaningless. A person needs to get to the root of what he or she wants in order to discover what will really make them happy. For example, if a person says: I want a million dollars. A statement like that is too broad and unfocused. The Universe can help get you want you want, but your desires and intentions need to be focused. It would be better (and the reasons are all taught in the book) to say:
I will have one million dollars by January 15, 2010. I will acquire this money through my efforts doing _____________ (and you fill in the blank). I will donate a portion of this money to _________________ ( It's important to give back to the Universe, so whenever you make a request of the Universe you should let the Universe know how you plan to give back...at least when making requests that deal with money).
Overall, I find this book to have a lot of helpful information. If for nothing else it can help a person turn around a negative or pessimistic attitude. The book can also helps enlighten people on how making just a few changes in the words they use can make a huge change in their personal life.
Lastly for all of you non-believers, the laws work whether you believe them or not, and whether you use them or not. If you have any doubts, just take a look at events in your own life. Think back to time when you were in a situation where all you said was something negative, even if was "sort of" positive. Perhaps there was a time in your life you had a job, and you were going through a rough patch, so you kept saying over and over (either to yourself, others or just out loud to no one in particular) "I hope I don't lose this job. I don't want to lose this job. I can't afford to lose this job, etc." After all that "wishing and hoping" you lost the job. Please don't be upset, the Universe did exactly what you asked it to do. You feared so much losing the job, that what you sent out to the Universe was the exact opposite of what you really wanted. Everything you hoped for was in the "negative" by saying "don't," "can't," "hope I don't," etc.
This book will teach you how to change your thinking and how to phrase your words to get what you want. Using the teachings in this book will change your life each day for the better. Once you put some of the teachings to use, you too will be surprised at how easy the concept is and you'll kick yourself for not knowing about this book sooner.
