If you have no experience creating a website, I recommend starting a free website or blog from a company such as Freewebs or Blogger. Do not make it a business website. Rather make it about a personal website on an interest or hobby. This way you won't get discouraged if things don't go as well as you plan. Spend at least three months developing this website while it is available for other to see. Experiment with different techniques on increasing traffic to your site. Once you feel like you have general grasp of how everything works, then you may begin your business website.
Getting the hang of it?
From my personal experience I can say that I have learned the most from creating a website from scratch. By doing so, you will not only be able to see how things appear on a web page but why they appear on the web page. Some people get discouraged because of the amount of code used in web pages. Although there is a lot of code, you won't have to type very much at all if you have a web development application like Adobe Dreamweaver. Start by learning HTML, then php scripting, and then JavaScript. Be aware all of this takes time and effort. Unless you are willing to commit to learning these principles, perhaps its not worth your time and you should seek professional web design help classes or outsource website development to a trusted company.
The Ultimate Goal
The ultimate goal is to get as many people to visit your website as possible. There are a few ways that this can be accomplished. The best method is through search engine optimization, that is the process by which people are directed to your web address through search engines like Google, Yahoo, and MSN. Oftentimes users only select the first 10 results of the query they submit so it is important that you are on the first page of the search engine query. This is difficult to complete especially if you are designing a website for your first time. To start the ball rolling, website owners utilize targeted online advertisements through services such as Google Adwords andYahoo Advertising. Although search engines and paid advertisements are excellent methods of generating website hits, in the long run you will rely on your cyber reputation. Maintaining a positive image is crucial to developing a constantly growing business.
Creating a website from scratch will give you the unlimited freedom of putting what you want on the website where you want, maximize the number of visitors through search engine optimization, and contribution something truly unique to the world wide web.
