Remember, people will remember you business by your logo, and you may establish repeat customers because of it. It is important that you know how to start out with a logo, how to design it, how to hire a designer, and most importantly how to protect it.
Starting the Logo
Before you do anything or spend any money, you will want to get a pencil, some computer paper, and begin sketching out the logo. This process may take hours, but in the end it is definitely worth it. The simple fact of the matter is, people will identify your business with the quality of your logo.
Also, many wise businessmen say that people should be able to recognize what you do simply be your logo. When designing the sketch for your logo, it is highly important that you get your message across in a quick fashion.
The Design of the Logo
You want your logo to be clean and straight to the point. Avoid using two many colors; as the most well-known logos are no more than 2 or three colors. When you have a rainbow of colors in your logo, it can actually turn people away; so be sure to minimize on that aspect of logo design.
You will also want your logo to stand out from the rest. You will want to avoid the trendy look; as people may pass up on your product or business simply because your company seems like "everybody else". The absolute worse thing you can do for a logo is to use clip-art. This can make your business seem rather unprofessional, so be sure to have it professionally done.
Hiring a Designer
Some designers out there will charge in the thousands of dollars just to have one logo done. Be sure not to judge the designer on price, but rather quality as well. You may find an absolutely cheap designer, however, if you look at the logos; they can seem rather generic. You will want to spend the extra dollar for a better logo as it can last you several decades.
Spending money also saves money for later. Your logo will go on every single business card, business document, e-mail, and website that you decide to put out. Be sure that you enough money to come out with a high quality and highly professional logo for your business.
Protecting your logo
Protecting your logo is probably the most important thing when it comes to logo design. You will want to go to the U.S patent and trademark office website and follow their instructions from there.
Once you have finally protected your logo, you will be able to use it on anything you please. Be sure that you have protected it, and keep a watchful eye of people who may steal it and use it as their own.
Conclusion
Creating a logo can be a very easy process if you know how to do it. Just be sure that you don't take this step for granted, as the thing that can put your business ahead of the rest can simply be a logo.
