Creating Photo Note Cards of Your Welsh Corgi

Cindy Lynn
As Welsh Corgi owners, it's no secret that we love our dogs. A Corgi has an impish face and a perpetual smile that makes us--and everyone a Corgi meets--fall in love with him. It's only natural, then, that a Corgi's pixie looks and roguish style make him an ideal subject for cards. And why pay money for note cards with someone else's animal on the front, when you can showcase your own dog? Below are a few tips for creating awesome pet note cards featuring Corgis.

Purchase a good card program. There are a number of good card programs available to the amateur. When I first started designing pet note cards, I used The Print Shop, which is still available in the latest version at Broderbund. At the present, I use Greeting Card Factory, which can be found at Nova Development. Both are available starting near $40. When purchasing software, be sure to read about it and check online reviews. Just because the box says it creates certificates for underwater basket weaving, or invitations to the Royal Wedding in the Andromeda Galaxy--along with note cards--that doesn't mean it will necessarily fit your needs.

Choose a sharp photo that includes your Corgi's best feature.
When looking at photos, don't let emotions sway you. He may be the cutest little fella ever, but if the photo is blurry, cluttered with a noisy background, or your pet looks annoyed, no one will be impressed. Minor problems can be cured in any decent photo-editing program, but the less touch-up there is to do, the more fun it will be creating note cards that feature your dog. Pick a photo that shows off your Corgi's best features such as a cocked head, happy smile, or the Corgi trademark, "Flat on back with paws in air."

Decide whether to attach the photo or print it directly on the card.
You can use the software to print a frame (as simple or complex as you'd like) on the front of the card, and then, using double-sided tape, attach a real photo of your Corgi inside the frame. Another method is to import your digital photo into the note card program, and print the whole thing on a home printer.

Sign your work. No matter whether you choose to machine print or hand sign your signature, don't forget to put your name and your Corgi's name on the back of the card. You never know when one of you might become famous!

In conclusion, there's a lot of enjoyment in creating your own pet note cards. If you purchase a good card program, utilize clear, sharp photos of your pet, attach them to the front of the card or print the image on the card, and make sure to sign your work, you'll have an eye-catching note card that features the best Welsh Corgi in the world ... yours!
