For those who enjoy energy drinks, there can be a lot of cans and bottles left over from purchasing them. In most cases you can turn these bottles in for a few cents or just recycle them through your town's recycling plan. An alternative to this is to use your energy drink cans as piggy banks. That's right, a legit homemade piggy bank. Of course you can apply this concept to any large can but I am going to be using a "Mega-Monster" 24 ounce can for this example.
The first step you are going to want to do is save the cap from the Mega-Monster can. If you have power tools available to you at home then this shouldn't be an issue, but for those who don't have power tools then you will need to do the following.
Measure out the diameter of the largest coin you will insert, typically the quarter. The quarter is roughly 2.4-2.5cm in diameter but feel free to measure it too. Using a sharpie or any other marking utensil, draw a 2.4-2.5cm line across the top of the cap. If you have the strength, use a flat head screwdriver to work your way through the metal and to create your insertion hole. If you don't have either of these, then you can heat up the cap on a stove until it gets really warm and flexible. From this point, use an average buttering knife and you can cut clean through the cap. Be sure not to dent any other parts by accident as this will prevent the cap from fitting the final product. Once you have made a clean cut across the 2.4-2.5cm line, be sure to clean off any scrap material and see if the quarter fits through it. If you are happy with your work, feel free to polish it and make it nice and shiny.
At this point, you are pretty much complete. Pop your Mega-Monster cap back on your Mega-Monster bottle and voila, you have yourself a fully functional piggy bank. The cans sturdy and rigid design is sure to contain all your coins all the way up to the brim without collapsing. An additional benefit to using a Monster can as a piggy bank is thieves will never know to check it! Who would check a energy drink can for money! Good luck with your creation and feel free to be creative.
