Sew a Scarf Pillow
When making a scarf pillow you want to first sew the scarf fabric together on three sides, as mentioned by a Vox writer. Sew the scarf on the wrong side, that is with the inside facing out, if you don't want the thread to show in teh fainal product. Turn the pillow inside out so that the colorful side of the fabric is showing. Stuff the open side with a pillow batting and sew it closed.
You can also make a scarf pillow by replacing the fabric of an old pillow. Carefully cut the fabric off the old pillow and place the scarf material on the exposed batting. Sew the scarf material along the edge of the batting. The side that you sew first will be the back side of the pillow; it will most likely not be as fluffy as the front of the pillow, as mentioned by a Vox writer. Sew the remaining fabric along the edge of the batting. If you have extra material hanging from the pillow after sewing, consider using it as fringe, if possible. Simply cut or tear the extra material in uniform strips. Save large amounts of material for later craft projects.
Additionally, you can make a scarf pillow with muslin, as described by one Apartment Therapy writer. Get a piece of muslin with edges that are 1/4 inch longer than your scarf. Center the scarf, right side up, on the muslin. Pin and stitch the muslin and scarf together, 1/8 inch from the edge of the scarf. Make the back of the muslin scarf pillow. Use 2 pieces of fabric, each 3/4 as long as the muslin--with the same width. Start, with the scarf right side up. Lay one piece of fabric at each end of the scarf with the right sides down and the hems pointing toward the middle. Pin and stitch the fabric to the scarf just inside your already created 1/8-inch seam. Turn the pillow and press out the corners with a knitting needle. Iron flat and place the pillow form, or batting, on the inside of the new scarf cover.
Make a Scarf Pillow Without Sewing
Of the two methods described here, this is the simplest. This methods comes froma writer at Thrifty Fun.com. You want to first place a pillow so that it makes a diamond on the scarf. The corners of the scarf and pillow should be perpendicular to each other.
Next, take the top corner of the scarf and the bottom corner directly diagonal from it and tie a knot tight enough so that it lies near the center of the pillow. Do the same with the remaining two corners of the scarf.
Lastly, flip and place your new scarf pillow wherever you desire: a sofa, a chair or even the floor.
